DD kicked her ankle - do we see a GP or does she need something more specialised?

DD kicked her inside ankle & it is sore and swollen - I have a feeling the GP will say - just rest it & see how it goes

Do we need to see someone else or am I fussing? A dance or sports physio? or someone else?

She starts full-time college in September so I need her to be on top form; I'm not sure the GP will understand

When did this happen? Yesterday or weeks ago?

KatyMac · 21/07/2014 10:51

Yesterday (mid-performance) she complained straight after - but in all the end of term performance/angst I just thought it was something & nothing

This morning it looks quite bad and she says she thinks she won't be able to dance tonight

Ring her teacher.

get her to A&E if it's hurting, you can't tell what's going on inside

she could aggravate other parts of her body (back, knee) trying to protect her foot from hurting more

KatyMac · 21/07/2014 10:55

I just worry that A&E will think we are daft......

It's silly, I mean it's probably just bruised - but if she isn't standing on it?

I've left a message for her teacher

Sports physio.

They will be able to tell you whether she needs a&e/x-rays/scans, and if not provide treatment.

If she's in a serious dance school it's likely the dance teacher has a good relationship with a few physio's, and often can get a discount.

I always get dd seen, even if it's just to find out whether it need complete rest, or she can continue but be guided by discomfort/pain..

Her teacher says to ice it to help with swelling & that she will look at it this evening (at about 4) to see if she needs A&E

She understands why I am panicking & will make a phyiso appt if DD needs one.

I am such a wuss

Did she not ice it when she got home?

KatyMac · 21/07/2014 11:29

She fell asleep in the car and when we got home (3hrs later) she went straight to bed

Silly girl! I didn't think it was serious Hmm

I think yesterday she was on a high because she won 'dancer of the year' for her associate scheme.

She iced & rested it and the swelling has gone down - I know, I panicked - I feel a bit daft!!

She can't point or 'land' on it though

Ice and gp. Ds had a swollen knee (cause unknown) some saw the who sorted out the "paperwork" so we could go for an xray. I don't think a dance teacher or even a sports physio can arrange xrays.

Thanks she is much better today
