My dd is 8, she is good at running and has been put forward for an inter-school cross country race next week. She needs new shoes for school sports anyway, but I wonder if she needs special shoes for cross country running? She has turned her ankle over a couple of times recently, spraining it quite badly the first time, and I don't want her to slip. I have seen fell running shoes, and running spikes, online but have no idea what is appropriate. Would fell shoes be too heavy? (Am assuming they are for long distance mountain running?).
She has only had the ankle incidents since having new trainers lower in the ankle than her old Asics ones, the shop only had one shoe in her size, but I think she may need more support. We live in a remote rural area and so I have to shop online, as the only sports shop is really small (hence the shoe problem above, when she had a sudden growth spurt just before a race). I've been looking at trainers online all morning and am none the wiser!
