Can children attend Olympics on an adult ticket?

We have been very fortunate and have been given 2 tickets for an Olympic event in the main Olympic village for next week. As we only have 2 tickets (and i'm nearly 37wks pg) DH will be taking DS up for the event, however we have been given 2 adult tickets rather than one child and one adult. I've searched the 2012 ticket site but can't find an answer so I'm turning to MN!

Can a child enter on an adult ticket? I can't think why they couldn't as the adult ticket would have cost more - but they seem to have a lot of weird rules about a lot of things!

I really need to know the answer to this before we tell DS and they embark on a trip to London - DS would be devastated if he was turned away as he is completely Olympics mad!

yes, no problem :)

CMOTDibbler · 01/08/2012 09:43

yes, many events there weren't childrens tickets anyway

Boggler · 01/08/2012 09:49

Thanks for the replies - exactly what I wanted to hear. DS will be so exited when we tell him!

Yes absolutely.

androbbob · 01/08/2012 19:25

Well I called the number and they said any pay your age child ticket could be upgraded to adult ticket, so cant see any reason why child cant use adult ticket as still occupying a seat

cocoachannel · 01/08/2012 21:06

Report back when you've told him OP. would love to hear how he reacts!

thereinmadnesslies · 01/08/2012 21:33

DH took DS to the hockey today using an adult ticket. No-one even mentioned it

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 02/08/2012 00:26

My children went in today and yesterday on adult tickets without any issues.

CaseyShraeger · 02/08/2012 00:32

Yes - most events don't have "children's" tickets anyway (the cynical would say that the whole claimed provision of 'children's' tickets was just a PR gimmick anyway).

We told him last night, it was funny because he thought it was more tickets for the football (we live in Wales and they went to cardiff last week for the football). When he read the tickets and realised it was in London and he was going to see the athletics he was literally jumping round the kitchen - result one very happy 8 yr old (and one slightly green mum) Grin

Grin

He'll have great time. My sons have enjoyed themselves hugely.

Butkin · 02/08/2012 12:03

The Child's ticket wasn't a gimmick. We paid 9 pounds for DD's Cross Country ticket rather than 55 each for ours. We will pay full price for her though just to try and get her into the stadium for anything!

CaseyShraeger · 02/08/2012 12:07

Yes, but after making the big song and dance about how there were these special children's tickets available, how many were actually available? Everyone I know in RL who got tickets failed to get any children's tickets and had to pay full price - that's why I described it as a gimmick. Obviously if you were lucky enough to get a child's ticket for something it's a great deal, but it's not a deal that was available to many people.

Housemum · 02/08/2012 12:26

We got children's tickets for the hockey last Sunday, and for about 1 minute yesterday there were some available for athletics this weekend but we missed them!

StellaNova · 03/08/2012 12:29

We got child ticket for basketball - £4

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 03/08/2012 12:49

I got children's tickets for the fencing for a 4 yr old and 8 yr old. I didn't get them for some other events.

Knittingshouldbeanolympicsport · 03/08/2012 13:01

We've had child tickets for rowing (saw the heats on Monday) and have got child tickets for Paralympic athletics. Dc's are very excited about it already and it isn't til September!

gladders · 03/08/2012 13:18

we've had kids tickets - not a gimmick.

CaseyShraeger · 03/08/2012 23:07

There were 11 million Olympic tickets available altogether; what percentage of those were sold at children's rates? I'm not suggesting that there were never any available, just that the amount of publicity given to the existence of "pay your age" tickets was wholly disproportionate to the number of those tickets that were actually available.

There are loads available for the Paralympics, I entirely agree on that.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 03/08/2012 23:23

I have googled it quickly and couldn't find a percentage - it may be released after the Games, along with a mega analysis of the ticketing system. I suspect they did what they did with the price bands for the initial ballot ie have a rough idea and adjust in line with demand.

There were also pay £16 tickets for OAPs too.

Was that 11m tickets via the UK site or overall? I don't think any other country did the Pay Your Age offer,

Hello... I'm wanting to upgrade sone of our kids and senior tickets to adult ones. Is this possible? Do you know how? I can't get through on that phoneline! Thanks in advance

TeaAndSlanket · 30/08/2012 23:04

Hi, I did this onsite today at Stratford ticket office before security. They allow it, bit of a faff, and they cocked it up and ended up invalidating one of my other tickets, as a 'refund'. Got it sorted eventually, but a bit of a palaver, and made us miss 20 mins of the event. Just keep hold of all your receipts and original tickets.

That was @ againagain btw
