I have very very dry and flaky skin on one of my feet. Please see photo. This foot also has fungal toenails. It is a generally revolting foot hence the 🤢🤮 emoji’s. Strangely the other foot is fine.

It cracks in some areas too which makes it quite sore to walk on. How can I get rid of this dreadful dry skin?

It says my image is under review so it might take a while to show up ……..

Oh that looks really sore! Get some Flexitol foot cream and slather it on every night. If I were you I’d also make an appointment with a podiatrist. I went to see one last week because I had a callous on my big toe that no amount of pumice stoning and Flexitol got rid of. She sorted it in ten mins totally painlessly with a scalpel!

Lolamorte · 21/06/2025 20:41

Podiatry can be accessed privately, like dentistry, and can be a great idea.

FunkyFoot · 21/06/2025 20:43

I’ll give the Flexitol a try and think about a podiatrist, things are just a bit tight with money at the moment.

Please also go to your GP and get a diabetes check.

You’ve got me worried now.

If you have a fungal toenail, this might be sign of a larger fungal infection - I get athletes’ foot sometimes and it presents as flaky skin which mostly isn’t sore unless too much flakes off. Try Daktarin Gold. It’ll take up to 4 weeks to show an improvement.

FancyCatSlave · 21/06/2025 20:57

You can get athletes foot on the soles and sides not just toes and nail fungus, I’d hazard a guess that you have moccasin athletes foot. It needs treating for that before you deal with dryness.

endofthelinefinally · 21/06/2025 20:59

Typical athletes foot. Treat that first. You need to put the powder in your socks and shoes and wash socks and towels on a hot wash frequently.

stockpilingallthecheese · 21/06/2025 21:00

I have similar feet but always have done and it’s genetic as several others in my family have the same. They never look normal but the best I can get them is regular filing and using flexitol heel balm twice a day - no other foot cream comes close, it’s miraculous stuff!

JDM625 · 21/06/2025 21:01

This isn't a sporner thing OP, this could be a serious health issue!

I too would be seeing my GP to check for diabetes and other health issues. That isn't normal OP! Chronic fungal toenails could be a sign of issues too. Please get checked!

DumpedByText · 21/06/2025 21:04

This stuff is amazing, I only put it on a few times a week and my feet are baby soft! I got it off Amazon.

Yes. Definitely this.

LoafofSellotape · 22/06/2025 09:38

Treat for athletes foot then see the GP if it doesn't work.

The podiatrist I saw charged £47. That was what she charges all her first timers as it includes a full foot health check. I know if money still tight then that’s a lot but I’m sure the GP would be able to help.

LoafofSellotape · 22/06/2025 12:04

If you want it checked , see the pharmacist first.

FunkyFoot · 22/06/2025 20:36

Thank you for the advice. I’m going to make a GP appointment and ask about being tested for diabetes and go from there.

I’ll obviously mention my manky foot too.

I had something similar in one foot . After a toenail clipping test came back positive for fungal infection I had tablets which fixed the toenails and made the skin much better. That foot is still more prone to dry skin and cracking but it's "normal" heel cracking not fully scaly all over.

PrincessOfPreschool · 22/06/2025 20:47

I doubt it's diabetes if only one foot. I think highly likely fungal rather than dry.

It’s definitely this. I have it and use Lamasil once every now and then plus the Swedish foot cream (can’t remember it’s name) and an amazing foot file from Amazon.

shizgigz · 03/07/2025 15:51

Yep that’s a fungal infection. I had it for years and no amount of otc creams made any difference. My heels would constantly split.
I was finally put on a course of Terbinafine and it disappeared in weeks along with the fungal nails.

Agree

It might take a while to shift and you may have to have liver function checks alongside your terbinafine

Also worth asking for your thyroid to be checked.

I have an underactive thyroid and it's really impacted my feet with hard and dry skin.
