Broken off stitch

I just have to share this with people who will appreciate it! I had a lipoma removed ten days ago and had the stitches removed this morning.

Halfway through removing them the nurse said "oops". Never a good sign. Then she told me that the longest stitch had broken off but that it would "work its way out".

I spent today feeling a little itchy and sensitive and then thought bugger this for a bunch of bananas I'm having a go. A bit of gentle prodding with my sharp tweezers and I got the blighter out! And here he is in all his inch long glory.......

Fab!
DH once had one work out of where he’d had a chest drain, several months after it’s removal. He hadn’t even been told a suture was still in there.
I do always panic when I leave one. Not all patients are as calm and understanding as you are!

Fantastic!

Oooh you’re so lucky. Love it when stuff like this happens ☺️☺️

I had a septoplasty (medically necessary) many years back. I didn't get any after care advice. Several days after being discharged I noticed a piece of suture dangling from my nostril so I pulled. Inches of suture came out - eight plus inches. It wasn't the best of ideas as I got an infection and the op wasn't very successful. Confused

Does it happen quite often, UnderstandTheWeird? I've never had stitches before so this is all very new to me. The nurse seemed quite chilled about it and she said the wound was lovely and clean and healing nicely so I wasn't worried. I did enjoy the digging though and the satisfaction as it slid out was amazing!

@bluecampbell Not often tbf. I’ve only had it happen to me around 3 times in 14 years, but then DH has had it happen, and I’ve seen a patient that had them removed elsewhere with several left in that I had to pull out as she was in a right panic. God knows what happened there!
