Help with very stubborn child attached to stubborn verucca!

This has been going on for what feels like months and it's driving me mad!

8 year old has a verucca on the bottom of foot. Started out small and became a whopper. Tried Bazuka, some herbal stuff that worked wonders on a wart but did bugger all, and a freezing treatment at the advice of a pharmacist.

NOTHING WORKS. To add - child is also suspected autistic and will not let us near the thing for love nor money. She has taken the approach of cover with a sock and hope for it to magically vanish. But then she gets the rage because her sock makes her foot too hot.

What can we do that involves very minimal touching (sadly) - I'm thinking a magic plaster but do they actually work?

The mention of returning to pharmacist or GP sends her into a screaming spiral also... so it's real fun.

Pic in next post!

Do you think they'd tolerate a podiatrist dry needling it?
They use a fine needle and push it a little deeper then the immune system kicks in.

Not cheap I think I was £50 but I'd tried everything else over the previous 18 or so years.

How are they with sand? A day at the beach cleared up my 8 year old's 9(!) very stubborn verrucas recently when all the usual treatments failed. I think I got that tip from an old MN thread!

Cathster · 30/05/2024 08:30

@Needanewname42 unlikely but it may be last resort... but she won't even let us near it with fingers let alone a stranger with a needle 🤦‍♀️

@FlamingoYellow that's interesting, we have been to the beach recently but I didn't notice any difference unfortunately! Maybe I just need to find a sandpit for her 😆

Have you tried dealing with it when she’s asleep? I did this with my daughter a few years ago. If I did it whilst she was in a deep sleep she didn’t wake up!

PuttingDownRoots · 30/05/2024 08:50

It needed filing before treating... Would she tolerate doing that herself? Then try one of the methods like duct tape, or nail varnish.

It was basically extra strength, coupled with vigorous filing, that did it for my DDs. The filing did hurt.

rodentgirl · 30/05/2024 09:25

Have same issue and about to try Scholl verucca plasters and possibly the School freeze stuff to try and avoid multiple treatments x

kalokagathos · 30/05/2024 10:05

My mum's cousin had a stubborn verruca and nothing was helping. They then heard of and implemented successfully a treatment with garlic. They attached a slice of garlic on the verruca, plastered and bandage around the finger and left overnight. The garlic burned through verruca and more and got rid of it. They did leave garlic on for too long because there was a burn as a result so monitoring and timing is important so you don't go overboard.

Duck tape.

haggisaggis · 30/05/2024 10:11

My dd had chronic verrucae for years - tried everything. In the end they did just suddenly disappear by themselves.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 30/05/2024 10:14

We used a squirt of aloe Vera gel with a drop of tea tree oil on a cotton wool pad. Just taped it on every night. Veruca was gone in a few months. No filing or other treatment

TimeBadger · 30/05/2024 10:16

Autistic DS had one. I’m not sure if it was anything we did or if it did just clear up on its own as it took a while, but I also did what I needed to do once he was in a deep sleep, with his prior agreement.

babybrum · 30/05/2024 10:17

Sounds horrible but you need to actually 'slice' the top of the verruca off before using bazuka. I got rid of my daughters using a clean scalpel nightly, removing just the top layer adding on the treatment ( it will sting) and then covering with a sock. Whatever you do do not stop for even one night, they are extremely stubborn. The aim is to eventually get to the root - a black dot and that needs removing. That will stop it growing back. It took us about 3 weeks, using this method. This was a verruca that was there for about a year even after being frozen off.

Fuddlefiend · 30/05/2024 10:20

Honestly. Duct tape over it, leave it as long as possible and repeat couple of times. Works really well

Cathster · 30/05/2024 10:23

Thank you everyone, some really useful advice.

Duct tape is likely to be the least stressful option for her so we will try that.

If I can get to her whilst she’s sleeping (with her agreement of course as she’ll flip out if she wakes and realises!) then I’ll try filing down also.

Following this as I'm having a similar issue. We are due to start Bazuka tonight ..... not feeling hopeful 😵‍💫

ArrrMeHearties · 30/05/2024 17:21

My 8yo son has one in the exact same place and won't let us near it and like you we have tried all the potions and lotions to try and get it out including bazuka x2. He also has asd and ADHD which makes trying to deal with it a million times harder. I'm phoning the doctors for an appointment for podiatry as it's been almost a year now and it just won't shift

Caferouge · 30/05/2024 17:29

Have you tried a piece of banana peel covered with a plaster? Repeat each night for a couple of weeks and it should turn black and then fall off.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 30/05/2024 17:31

The verruca plasters do work. I used them with no filing on ds.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 30/05/2024 17:32

Can you get her to choose an option and do it herself? With you supervising?

Cathster · 30/05/2024 20:18

@reallyworriedjobhunter I gave her all the options presented here - she said the needle option was the worst 😁

I have managed to (after lots of tears and screaming) get her to agree to me trying to file it down and stick duct tape on while she's sleeping. Not entirely sure how I'm going to manage it in the dead of night but it's the best option we have right now!

@ArrrMeHearties sorry to hear you're facing the same issue... it's so hard isn't it? Hope you get somewhere with the doctor. I suggested doctors to DD and that was what convinced her to let me give it a go tonight!

Also an autism parent and have been known to sneak around with bazuka and a torch.
