Blackhead in 2yr old's ear

Advice needed as this is driving me NUTS. He won't let me touch it. It's been there for months and I find myself staring at it longingly when sat next to him.
I've even shown him these pictures and told him it was dirt and asked if I could get it - he said ok but then changed his mind as soon as I touched his ear.
All usual ideas tried to no avail (washing, cotton bud, etc.)
Do I just have to ignore it ?!

You will have to ignore it or you will give him a complex. Of course, if he’s a heavy sleeper… Wink

KingNidge · 18/03/2024 16:55

Tattoo numbing cream or Emla cream ftw.

Bramshott · 18/03/2024 16:55

Pressing the looped end of a hair grip down on it is the way to deal with these if you can...

Platedshoes · 18/03/2024 17:29

I'm afraid I would (and have) be getting that in his sleep.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/03/2024 17:32

Kirby grip after a nice warm bath and a warm flannel soak to soften it. Wait until he's asleep or head on your lap while watching a cartoon. Is he too young to bribe with sweetie money? 😉

Leave the poor kid alone. Go pick your own spots!

idratherbedrawing · 20/03/2024 21:22

Oh god I feel your pain. I'd be doing ANYTHING I could to get this, made harder by DH not understanding Sporn at all and would likely take it upon myself to guard my son's ear should this situation arise. Ears are pretty sensitive so not sure you can get this while he's asleep. I reckon considerable bribes are way to go - if he's too young now at least you will get at it one day

AmysFriend · 21/03/2024 21:36

I feel your pain because my, much older, child has a blackhead above their lip they won't deal with or let me deal with. It's been months and it's ENORMOUS. When they were much younger, I successfully got a huge sticky out bump off their nose when they were asleep by wielding a blackhead tool in their bedroom late at night. Mwahahaha. The memory keeps me warm.

Lovefromjuliaxo · 21/03/2024 21:38

Christ, do NOT stick Kirby grips in your ear or Q tips, or even your finger. I can’t believe the stupid advice on here

Doing this can cause ear infections- I speak from experience.

if you’re that concerned take him to the doctor, where they can take a look and remove it properly if necessary.

Never stick anything in a child's ear. That is so dangerous, I can't believe anyone is suggesting it. Their ear canal is so short, one wriggle or jerk of the head and you could perforate the eardrum.

Could you arrange adoption? I'm not sure I could live with a child with that. GrinGrinGrin

It's not in his ear, the flappy bit is external, and more than reasonable to attack with a hairgrip or warm salty water soaked cotton bud

Ooh, that's tough 🍪

It’s close enough to the inside of his ear (in the hole so to speak) that one slip or wrong jerk from her or the child could hurt his canal / eardrum as PP said. You can also get outer ear infections in the part shown. FFS never put anything like a dirty old Kirby grip into your ear, whether it’s near the outside or not. Ditto a (clean) q tip.

a blackhead will likely go on its own, any worries you can see the GP

how people on here can suggest such idiotic stuff like poking into their kids ears, I never know.
