Can't get rid of this verruca!

Sorry it's a bit of a rubbish picture. I've been trying to get rid of this verruca for years, I've tried freezing (home and professional), apple cider vinegar for months on end, salicylic acid, corn plasters (thought it was worth a go), silver nitrate but still can't get rid of it. Yesterday I got fed up and tried to slice it off with a razor blade. It bled like there's no tomorrow, went straight through 5 layers of plasters, my socks etc. Just tried to clean the area again this morning and it looks like this. I don't know what else to try! Any suggestions?

It will someday go. In my considerable experience with verrucas when they are bed in nothing works and filing spreads them. Then after many years they go, and on the way out you can speed it up with tape or creams, etc.

Another vote for swift, I was very sceptical but one verucca gave up after just one treatment and it looks like the other (10 year plus one) will be gone after two.

It’s hideously painful but only for two second blasts. It’s £130 per monthly treatment.

If you have money to throw at it then I would suggest needling. Worked like a charm on mIne. The podiatrist said it could take up to 6 months to disappear but it went almost instantly. I’d had it for over 10 yrs by this point.

The best way I ever got rid of a verucca was when I was about 10 years old and I dug it out with a pair of nail scissors. It hurt like hell, but left a most satisfying hole and never came back.

I did the same at about the same age, only I used a darning needle. It was big and came out whole with a long root on it. very satisfying.
Ds had to go to the dermatologist his was injected and then cut out. Big sucker.

Wrap a banana peel around it (cover with sock to hold in place) this made mine disappear in 3 days... About 30 years ago! And I've never forgotten

kitchenhelprequired · 26/11/2023 00:10

Healing a verucca happens from the inside. It's best to disturb it in some way (you could well have done that) so the body actually realises it's there and then it can heal. DD had some stubborn ones over the years. Had some success with applying something homeopathic but another which lasted about 3 years and nothing including freezing worked. Filed & used duct tape for a while as recommended by a podiatrist and it disappeared. It was also the last one she had.

Don't worry about bleeding. Verrucas do bleed easily.

DieDeutschLehrerin · 26/11/2023 00:16

Yes, another advocate for Swift treatment. Stings but totally bearable I found and it was gone in 2 or 3 treatments after 8 years. It can fight back a little bit but this usually triggers the immune response.
A podiatrist can also do a sort of Microneedling treatment. Basically, you need to cause damage to it to alert the immune system that there's something in that area that needs healing. You can poke it yourself with a needle but you need to be very careful with feet and potential infections. The advantage of the swift treatment is that it doesn't break the skin, it microwaves the centre.

Caprylic acid capsules. I took them for candida and noticed my 20+ year old verucca had disappeared within a couple of weeks. Used them on my daughter and it killed off some warts she had. I believe its anti fungal.

Verrucas are caused by a virus, not a fungus.

RashOfBees · 26/11/2023 00:25

I had the needling treatment over ten years ago on a very stubborn verruca. It disappeared completely - but came back almost as quickly and is still there.

I had some very strong black acid applied to two others and they did disappear for good. Anyone know what this might have been? The podiatrist I used isn’t around any more and I’d love to get rid of the one that’s left.

Duct tape. Constantly covered.

My daughter had loads and we tried everything, nothing worked. Old school GP said to cover in duct tape, once a week take it off and pumice. Took about 3 months maybe, but they all went. And she must have had about 50 all over her feet!

Don’t bother with anything else - this will work!

I also dug mine out (at a later age) with a scalpel, after 'loosening' it around the edges it can be pulled with a tweezers and the whole lot removed leaving a very clear hole. It never came back.

Notsandwiches · 26/11/2023 20:39

Whatever...it went.

floradora · 01/12/2023 11:49

DD had a cluster - tried all the over the counter treatments, then someone on here suggested banana skin taped on with duct tape. They were gone in about a week and never recurred.

I tried everything on mine over a couple of years and they never went. Turns out if you have an autoimmune condition they won't go easily eg Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis etc.

I ended up having this new Swift treatment. Very expensive, very painful (at the moment of treatment), but it worked. It's one treatment a month for 3 months and it activates your immune system to work against the virus.

Yes. I have leukopenia apparently which is why they won't go. What is weird, though is that although this is an immune suppressant disease, I don't catch bugs going around, etc.

Not for me. Been trying this for 30 years - still not gone.

Use a foot file on it every single day.

I did this with my sons, and it was the only thing that worked
