Currently on holiday and the mosquitos have found me to be delicious. Feast your eyes on my lovely pustules!

My DH is itching to pop them.

[i do have antihistamines, cortisone cream and antibiotic cream and have spoken to a pharmacist]

Ouch!
Is that what’s called skeeter syndrome? I hope the rest of the holiday is uneventful!

Skeeter syndrome is an extreme reaction to a mosquito bite. You may develop a blister, severe swelling, redness, or heat at the bite site. Skeeter syndrome is rare and not life-threatening. Most people can treat skeeter syndrome at home with topical creams and antihistamines.

Didn’t know there was a name for it. I’ve always reacted badly to bites but usually just redness. Only a previous horsefly bite blistered like this. They are grim and I’m surrounded by my family who are all avid Dr Pimple Popper fans and want to squish them!

Bloody hell, OP! Those are some serious blisters.
Definitely don't pop them.
In future, try taking a double dose of antihistamines as soon as you realise you've been bitten.

I’m not popping them (or letting anyone else do it). I’m taking cetirizine and fexofenadine (sp?). They aren’t particularly itchy now, just tight and look horrible. I’ve taken some pictures to show the GP when I get home to see if there’s anything I can be prepared with before my next holiday.

I get this, and didn't know it was a syndrome either. I always pop them I'm afraid 😳

I've had this recently. A nurse drained and dressed a few of the blisters, which were getting huge.

TwoBlueFish · 20/08/2023 09:28

One of them popped last night by accident, the other 2 are slowly going down.

I've had this too this summer - went on holiday and got bitten a lot. Ended up with huge blisters.
Don't pop them, they will either deflate or catch on something. Mine looked bad but didn't hurt much. Doctor prescribed some topical anti biotics and steroids.
Have blistered again back in the UK, so I think I'm a bit more reactive than usual.

I got them in June this year. I had to pop them cos one on ankle and one on shin and was too uncomfortable wearing shoes/sandals. I didn’t actually pop them, I stuck a pin in edge of blister but I had to keep doing it over several days as kept filling up again. I’ve now little round marks where the blisters were.

WellThisIsFun1 · 20/08/2023 12:31

I get that, I always take antihistamines every day when on holiday as a precaution

Weathergirl007 · 21/08/2023 15:38

Snap! I normally get a bad reaction but never the blisters! I’m in Spain. Was just reading about Skeeter Syndrome and sounds about right! Hope you’re heal ok

All but one ended up popping, the one that definitely popped too early is sore and has meant no sea swimming as it’s too stingy. I would definitely recommend not popping if you can as the blister really protects the skin underneath.
