you really shouldn’t put things in a child’s ears. One flinch and you could accidentally perforate the eardrum.

Also, by putting things in, it actually risks pushing the wax down and compacting it so it occludes the TM. Ears are (mostly) self cleaning.

Ooooo. I’ve been for my fourth micro auction session in a month, on my right ear today - the audiologist was amazed that my ear had so much impacted wax. She had never seen quite so much wax build up, the last chunk was an inch long on its own.

Unless you’re medically trained, what are you doing?!
This is not a good idea.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 11/01/2023 23:36

@RandomCatGenerator really wish she had taken one! I was just amazed at how much wax can be in such a tiny space. I will add I went from being totally deaf to 100% hearing over the last 4 weeks - my god the world is sooo loud. The wax was black in colour.

LateOnTheBandwagon · 11/01/2023 23:41

@Fluffluff Has your ear camera got one of those miniature "spoons" and, if s, do they work? I keep seeing them advertised and really want one but wasn't sure if they were going to be a bit of a let down.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 12/01/2023 00:13

@LateOnTheBandwagon i can see the temptation in diy, but honestly it’s worth going and getting it done professionally. (As my seven years of deafness has has proved to me)

Well I was bitterly disappointed this week. Bitterly I tell you. Went to have my ears hoovered for the first time as they’d been feeling full and I was convinced my hearing has changed. Not one bit of wax to be seen in either ear! I was expecting my very own sporner moment that I could recount with relish. Fucking cheated. 🤬

May I ask who you used, or was it NHS?

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 12/01/2023 16:46

@RandomCatGenerator used a local hearing center called Dove Hearing. Although privately owned it’s based in a nhs Drs surgery. Specsavers kept cancelling appointments and well…. the nhs just isn’t exactly quick and it wasn’t life threatening. Tbh I really thought I needed hearing aids so went for a test and was ‘pleasantly’ surprised it was a monumental build up of wax! Using ear drops just wasn’t enough.
have been advised to go back once a year for a check up, which will only be charged if it’s discovered I have a build up of wax which needs removing. They didn’t charge me for all my appointments today his time either. Lovely people and brilliant service.
