Ok not quite sporner material but I'm sick of this! I try everything ... how do I stop the "crack"

There is no nail, I had an op to remove it as it was damaged by consistent gels. It hurts

You had to have your mail removed because of gels!?!?!

Ouch!

It looks really dry. I'd moisturise it several times a day to help the skin repair which, in the long run, should help to stop it cracking again

My thumbs often used to crack like this - what helps me is to go onto full fat milk for a few days - the extra fat seems to help.
Hope that helps

I agree, O'Keefe's hand cream is excellent or just rubbing in Vaseline throughout the day will help.

Gloves every time you step outside the door. Only wash 8n warm water, never cold. You might want to keep it covered for a few days, or try pulling the edges in a bit with Steristrips.

TomAllenWife · 25/11/2022 22:50

I sorted my cracked fingers with o'keefes

TooFewSpoons · 26/11/2022 10:54

I wonder if the cream you can get for cracked heels would help?

ThatLibraryMiss · 26/11/2022 11:21

You can seal the crack with superglue. It stings badly for a few seconds then it stops and it holds the crack together while it heals from the bottom up.

Lanolin will help to keep it moisturised. It's greasy but it works best for me.

Conkersareback · 27/11/2022 05:27

My dad used to get dreadful cracks on his hands due to his job, he used Fullers Earth cream, is that still available?

fallfallfall · 27/11/2022 05:31

Even Vaseline. But o’keefes, lanolin, Eucerin 5% urea cream. basically anything slathered on and reapplied all day and night.

CockSpadget · 27/11/2022 05:36

Sudocrem and a dressing will have that sorted in a couple of days. When I was doing floristry I was always getting cuts and cracks like that. Sudocrem never failed to heal them quickly. Then when it’s healed use okeefs to soften up your skin.

WeAreTheHeroes · 27/11/2022 05:56

Flexitol Heel Balm worked for me with cotton gloves over the top. Once it has healed you have to keep your hands moisturised. Wear gloves for household tasks and use handcream after you've washed your hands every time.

MrsMorton · 27/11/2022 09:05

Superglue then hand cream.

Queenie8 · 06/12/2022 06:46

@Conkersareback yes you can still get fullers earth cream, I get mine on amazon. Blooming brilliant stuff

DogInATent · 09/12/2022 16:46

Another vote for superglue. When it's a crack on one of those places that always flexes gluing it helps 'set' the crack so it can heal from below.

newtb · 09/12/2022 17:01

My dm used to get them. She used atrixo hand cream. Or how about the neutrogena one?

chesterelly1 · 10/12/2022 10:11

Lansinoh cracked nipple cream is amazing for cracked fingers and thumbs. I first used it on my daughter who was a constant thumb sucker. I figured if it was ok for babies to suck it wouldn't do her any harm

Another vote for O’keefe’s working hands cream. I sit and repeatedly slather it on whilst watching tv. it has healed cracked, split fingers within a couple of days and, as a HCP, I wash my hands and use gels a lot.
I find the round tub better than the tube for some reason, although I’m sure it’s supposed to be the same stuff.
