I have name changed for this. I’ve had athletes foot on the side of one foot for several years now. It’s getting worse and I think it’s spread to the nails. I’ve tried SO many treatments. Has anyone tried anything that actually works?

The spray stuff has always worked on mine, but you need to use it very regularly. You need to treat your nails with some fungal nail stuff as well or it will spread.

Terbinafine tablets takes months but works. Have to have blood tests as can affect liver.

User8486 · 13/07/2021 17:33

Ok thanks. By spray stuff do you mean the little bottles of medicated liquid you can squirt on?

Have you tried putting Tea Tree oil on your toe nails twice a day using a cotton bud ?
Worked for my dh.

Go to a chiropodist.

elf1985 · 13/07/2021 18:00

Mycota is the only stuff I've ever found to work. Normally get it in independent pharmacies

StickyThighs · 13/07/2021 18:24

Trimethoprim- get from drs!

Foot specialist here, doesnt look fungal so do not even entertain taking oral Terbinafine as it is like a sledgehammer to crack a nut. If it is toe 5 then the majority of the time this nail is mishapen due to trauma from shoes, either too tight or rubbing. If the athletes foot is bothering you then i only advise using an application of lamisil “once”, should resolve the problem. Apart from making your nails smell nice tea tree wlll do nothing, and can infact increase skin irritation.

Thank you, this is very informative!

Tea Tree worked for my dh. I've copied this :

Results from scientific studies supporting the use of tea tree oil to treat nail fungus are mixed. Some of the research points to tea tree oil’s potential as an antifungal, but more studies are needed.

According to a 2013 study, tea tree oil was effective in reducing growth of the fungus Trichophyton rubrum in nail infections. T. rubrum is a fungus that can cause infections such as athlete’s foot and nail fungus. Improvements were seen after 14 days.

This study used an in vitro model, which is sometimes called a test-tube experiment. In in vitro studies, the experiment is done in a test tube instead of on an animal or human. Larger human studies are needed to expand on these findings.

Combining tea tree oil with standard medicated creams is also an option. A small 1999 studyTrusted Source found that participants were able to successfully manage toenail fungus by using a cream that contained butenafine hydrochloride and tea tree oil.

After 16 weeks of treatment, 80 percent of participants who used this cream cured their toenail fungus with no relapses. No one in the placebo group cured their nail fungus. Further studies are needed to determine which of these ingredients is most useful in treating nail fungus.

Results of a 1994 studyTrusted Source found pure tea tree oil was equally as effective as the antifungal clotrimazole (Desenex) in treating fungal toenail infections. Clotrimazole is available both over the counter (OTC) and by prescription.

These are now quite old studies, and with mixed efficacy. There are now many over the counter remedies proven to work and cure the problem that do not irritate /burn the skin or cause reactions like tea tree can.

I second chiropodist or podiatrist (I don't know the difference!). Get some professional advice.

RuthTopp · 14/07/2021 22:38

@WowIlikereallyhateyou

The op asked a question about what has helped others . I have only replied what has helped my dh where other otc things did not.
It would not matter to me if the studies were 1 day or 30 years old , for him it worked.

My feet were literally peeling away after a few months of lock down. I'm lucky there is a dermatologist at my local mall (abroad) and he gave me an acidic ointment to melt the skin overnight and then lotriderm to use in the mornings which is fungal and steroid. I have lovely feet now

devuskums · 04/08/2021 10:16

I had a couple of yellow toenails like yours for years. I put vicks on them every night for a couple of weeks and all the yellow went!
