I used to syringe ears when I was a Practice Nurse and now really want to get back to doing it as it's good fun but mainly I want a sucky thing like this.

Not much drama here but so satisfying. Ds is 6 and loved learning about ears.

Oooh that was so relaxing to watch and listen to! Thanks!

As a practice nurse on maternity leave I am very much looking forward to syringing ears again.
When the wax comes out in a nice big slug shape and just plops into the water collector, heaven!
I like to drain the water off and show my patients the wax, especially the big lumps 😂

I had my ears syringed once.....loved it!!

hold on our gp receptionist told us they don't do this on the NHS anymore (England) & refers everybody to private opticians (audiologist)are they telling untruths?

MonkeyPuddle · 16/04/2021 22:48

@mumwon we’re not contractually obliged to carry it out I don’t think, I know some surgeries haven’t restarted doing it since having more nursing patients seen face to face. Where I work we’re not doing it at the minute as I’m off, but will probably start back up again when I go back as there will be an extra 30 hours of clinical time.

mumwon · 16/04/2021 23:23

its very unfair I think as it essential for hearing test & dh has hospital appointment post sepsis treatment/ antibiotics (they affect hearing & his is already bad)
What happens with people who have low income & can't afford it?

MonkeyPuddle · 17/04/2021 00:25

Amongst the nurses I know the demand has dropped, they think cos people are using the over the counter drops/sprays/oils for longer than a few days and then just asking for syringing. I know some areas can refer into mircosuctioning but not everywhere
