Scalp pilar cysts - any chance of NHS removal?

I have 5 Pilar cysts on my scalp. Three ads huge and two small (so will probably get big eventually). I’ve had them for years but the three big ones are now really bugging me. I’m really self-conscious when I get my hair cut (especially when they wash it) as it must feel gross. The thing is I don’t qualify for having them removed (GP told me this when I asked) as they don’t hurt, get crusty or scabby, and you can’t see them as my hair is thick. They’re just big lumps on my head but I really want rid. Is there any way of getting them done on the NHS? I can’t afford a private dermatologist. I would happily attempt home surgery but I fear it would end in disaster!

If pain and discomfort is a deciding factor will you not find they are becoming uncomfortable now?

StillRunningUpThatHill · 07/04/2021 18:09

Do you think they will buy it if they’re not oozing or bleeding, though?

Might you catch them on the comb before you go to the Drs next?

Size honestly has no impact on pain from these. I’ve had tiny ones that are excruciating and larger ones that didn’t bother me at all. It’s location and irritation and just a bit of luck.

I’ve had ones that were there for years not bothering me that became so painful overnight I was in tears.

I've had about six of these over the years.

The GP gives me s local anaesthetic and removes them and stitches up.

Deedle, that’s what I want but they said they couldn’t do it Sad I will try again though. They’re bloody huge.

I get them regularly since 1989,have regularly hAd them removed by GP,. You get a double appointment so the anaesthetic has time to work and then removal.
I'm in Scotland, but surely you re. eligible where you are? Didn't even have to explain why, just got it done. They always come back in other parts of the scalp annoyingly.

Thats the thing that with pain, nobody but you can say it exists or not. Just remember to react when the dr examines you.
