Athletes foot

I thought this would be the best section to post in.
I have athletes foot and it’s particularly bad on one foot.
I work in hospitality and at least 4 days a week will be in my shoes from 7:30am to up to 1/1:30am and many other hours rest of the days.
I’ve not realised how bad it’s got over the last few weeks but now if not wearing shoes it does hurt a bit to walk.
There are so many treatments out there, does anyone have any recommendations I could try.
I don’t think I can wash my work shoes as they ar DMs but I do wipe them down with anti back wipes on the inside.
I know this is spooner corner so I can add a photo if needed.

My DH used a product called LotriminAF when he had athlete's foot, it seemed to work pretty well. I'm not sure if it's availble in the UK under that brand name but the active ingredient is clotrimazole. There are spray, cream, and powder forms. DH used the spray in his shoes and the cream for his feet.

I'd like to see a photo, I've never seen real life athlete's foot

Agree with @HistoriaTrixie you need to spray your shoes with an anti fungal spray rather than antibacterial.

There is a product called Lamisil Once that is good. Otherwise it's a case of applying cream at least twice a day. IME you need to keep using the cream long after you think it's gone.

I believe the standard 40 on a washing machine isn't enough to kill the fungus on your socks. Try tumble drying them or boil washing.

Sympathies OP. The itching, followed by soreness is nasty.

Lamisil is what my friend used for hers. And what I therefore got my (now ex) to get rid of his.

Another recommend for Lamasil. Agree to using anti-fungal spray for shoes. Consider standing shoes outside in direct sunshine on a good day - this can kill the spores. Maybe consider having 2 pairs of shoes and wearing them on alternate days to allow them to 'dry' out between wear (spray and stand for 24 hrs sort of thing). Also, consider taking a pair of socks to work and swapping during a break part way through your day / shift - especially if prone to sweaty feet.

Oh and keep an eye on your nails.... just in case they become fungal!

SFHJ · 29/08/2020 22:22

Thanks everyone, I went with a lamisl spray and a shoe spray so I have sprayed all of my shoes and twice a day trying the spray.
I soaked my feet in vinegar the other day as that’s supposed to help so will try that again in a few weeks.
Hopefully it will be gone in a few weeks

Late to the party, but my OH suffered terribly with athlete's foot this summer.

He's used Lamisal cream, talcum powder immediately after a shower, soaking his feet in salt baths and puts vicks vaporub on his feet at bedtime. The Vicks was a desperate attempt to cool hot itchy night time feet down and boy, has it worked. It's probably the whole lot combined that has done the trick, but the cooling effect of the vicks really helped him get to sleep. The change in just a couple of days has been miraculous.
