Had a really sore throat recently so I shone a torch in there and can see one tonsil is very inflamed and white but it looks more like an ulcer. But behind the tonsil was a more yellow, pronounced looking spot. Googled it and it looked like a small tonsil stone. Because of the location - behind the tonsil I didn't think I'd be able to get at it without hurting myself or making myself gag but I got it first time with a gentle nudge. The relief is amazing and it was so satisfying to get it out. And the smell!!! EnvyEnvyEnvyEnvy

Gargled with listerine to hopefully clean the area. It's still sore thanks to the mouth ulcer but I'm so pleased the other nasty is gone! Thought I'd share this momentous occasion with fellow sporners

Congratulations OP! What a fabulous day! I'm jealous...

I haven't had a tonsil stone for years Sad

FlibbertyGiblets · 21/06/2020 00:48

Ooh how lovely, well done.

You'll have a crypt now that might refill, what a leg-rubber!

SucculentCandle · 07/07/2020 04:33

There's no way I could remove one without vomiting or drooling all over my own fingers but I have managed to kind of suck them out in the past.

Note to self. Don't squeeze them between your fingers and sniff.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 07/07/2020 04:58

Can you describe how you did it? I think my son may suffer from these and would love to get some relief for him. He's 16 so old enough to do it himself.

UnfinishedSymphon · 08/07/2020 09:02

Cotton buds to press the sides gently and they pop out

bogoblin · 08/07/2020 09:04

I had one years ago and then none.... and then TWO in the first few months of pregnancy! Once I know they're there I HAVE to get them out.

But it's soooo satisfying to get it out. And yes don't sniff them!

Suzie6789 · 08/07/2020 17:27

I had my first a few months ago, gave it a nudge with the tweezer, lifted an end, and grabbed it. It was a beautiful thing that left a little crater.... ahh dreams about having another .....

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 08/07/2020 17:31

DD has loads of these (Dr Google suggests a cryptic tonsil), and I get weirdly excited when she brings them through to show me. I've suggested she doesn't tell the GP (when she finally sees one face to face) what she's been doing, as I suspect they won't be happy Grin.

Found some amazing youtube videos as well, where they just pop out

LilyE1234 · 08/07/2020 17:34

I have one stuck at the moment. It’s so annoying and I can’t see anything when looking in my throat!

cushioncovers · 19/07/2020 22:28

I've only had one. And my god the smell 🤮

MargotMoon · 20/07/2020 23:03

I've got these since I was a kid from time to time. I hate them, they make my breath smell bad. Weirdly I've never bothered to mention them to the doctor or dentist, ot google to see what causes them, it just never occurred to me! Confused

ballsdeep · 20/07/2020 23:08

How do you know you have them?

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 20/07/2020 23:18

I had my tonsils out because I had tonsil stones so often. I miss the satisfaction of popping them out Blush but not worrying about my breath all the time!!

MargotMoon · 21/07/2020 14:41

@ballsdeep

How do you know you have them?

You can feel them - just stick your tongue in to your tonsils.

This is interesting @SeasonallySnowyPeasant - how old were you when you had them out? Did you get bacterial tonsillitis a lot? My GP said I couldn't have mine out because I usually only get viral tonsillitis

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 21/07/2020 14:57

I was 30. I’d never had tonsillitis but my GP said I met the criteria to have them out because I had tonsil stones at least every 2 weeks (I had them constantly). It was one GP appointment, got a referral straight away and had them out 3 months later.
