Is this old milk or pus?

Sorry to be gross, but I have a week old baby and my baseline for dignity is a bit skewed. One of my breasts has been sore, hurts when baby feeds from it and is apparently due to blocked ducts. I started massaging/squeezing today and this lot squirted out. Is it milk or pus? It is thick snot coloured. I don't feel feverish.

Whatever it is it must be better out than in so I’d pump from that breast till it runs dry. Good luck. I had blocked ducts a few times but thankfully managed to shift it each time and never developed mastitis.

PollyFeather · 07/11/2019 21:06

I'm not shocked at the sight of a nipple. Just a body part isn't it? Like a minge shot - that'd be ok too wouldn't it? Just a body part after all

elmosducks · 07/11/2019 21:09

Thats pus. See a doctor

Kuio · 07/11/2019 21:29

It’s pretty usual, but what’s it like now. If it’s normal consistency and you feel ok it may be just one of those weird things that happens that isn’t explains. If it reoccurs or you feel ill I’d book an emergency appt.

Kuio · 07/11/2019 21:30

UNusual I meant

Kuio · 07/11/2019 21:31

Sorry I missed the sore bit, go to the doctor

Yep, I'd be all right with a minge shot too 🤷🏼‍♀️ as long as it was for a medical reason and wasn't gratuitous.

PollyFeather · 07/11/2019 21:51

@FabulouslyGlamorousBat yeah, MN is rife with full frontal shots isn't it? Confused

Probably isn't for a good reason

I think the question to ask yourself, Polly is whether you'd find a picture of a man's nipple so objectionable. And if not, why not?

turnthebiglightoff · 07/11/2019 21:57

@PollyFeather I am totally 100% with you hun. A nipple? On a site primarily for mothers? Discusting.

PollyFeather · 07/11/2019 22:02

@turnthebiglightoff look, if this is the sort of thing you're fine with stumbling across then crack on. For most people --- gross and not needed

Celebelly · 07/11/2019 22:06

But it's posted in SPORNER CORNER. It's literally the home of gross, unnecessary things. It's where denizens of Dr Pimple Popper gather to watch exploding pustules and egg posters on to pop their massive whiteheads and record it for their viewing pleasure. This isn't the place to come if you don't want to see gross stuff.

Pugsleyaddams · 07/11/2019 22:08

I didn't bf so no idea but whilst I'm in no way offended by your 2nd pic you might want to get it removed if you hadn't considered that some perv might come across it and post it elsewhere. Personally if I were ok to put that pic on a public forum it wouldn't bother me what happened to it as it's not exactly outing but it's just something to consider.

Pugsleyaddams · 07/11/2019 22:11

I'm also curious (just general curiosity- I didn't bf either of my children) about Yorkshire's response to keep feeding from that side to drain the infection, wouldn't that mean the baby would potentially be feeding on the infected outputs?

YorkshireLawyer · 07/11/2019 22:36

Yes, if there is infection/an abscess the advice - gross as it sounds - is to keep feeding from that breast to avoid the infection worsening (because milk sitting in the breast is what causes/aggravates infection). If infection is present then the mother will be producing antibodies to combat it which she will pass on to baby in her milk to prevent the bacteria infecting baby. The Kellymom and La Leche League websites have information on this if anyone is interested Smile

over50andfab · 07/11/2019 22:42

@Pugsleyaddams when a mum has a breast infection, say mastitis, she is usually told to continue breastfeeding as this is the best way to clear the infection, blocked duct etc. The bacteria in the breast does not harm the baby, probably due to all the antibodies in it. Also take into account that the infection could have been picked up from the baby’s mouth.

Pus is actually the body’s immune reaction to an infection and is made up of dead white blood cells

turnthebiglightoff · 07/11/2019 23:48

@PollyFeather if this threads authors are a sample size of the population, you are very much in the minority. Good day.

nearlyfullycooked · 08/11/2019 12:58

Been to the docs and got some antibiotics. Glad to say that when I told her I was a week postpartum, breastfeeding and had some pus that she looked at a boob without fainting! Thanks to all who gave helpful responses.

Celebelly · 08/11/2019 13:08

Hope it's all cleared up soon!

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/11/2019 14:28

she looked at a boob without fainting!

Utterly shocking!

Glad you've got some medicine. Feel better soon.

Mumdiva99 · 09/11/2019 06:33

Glad you have the medicine. Hope the pain goes.

spanglydangly · 09/11/2019 10:55

@Widowodiw it's near enough a full frontal shot? I can see one boob, not a near enough full frontal. Are you looking at a different photo?

Glad you're getting it sorted OP, hopefully it'll settle down soon.

Glad it’s getting sorted OP!
