Gargle with salt water?

Plump82 · 27/09/2019 20:04

I've heard cutting out dairy can really help.

Coldhandscoldheart · 30/09/2019 08:45

I always find pasta makes things worse. Definitely start gargling.

ongranaryplease · 30/09/2019 08:53

Gargling with salt water, be so so so strict with your dental hygiene. If I don’t brush my teeth at night because I’ve nodded off on the sofa, I get absolutely loads of them.

Brush 3 times a day, brush your tongue quite far back, gargle with salt water and if you can get home of some of that antibacterial mouthwash that’s good. When I am really strict I notice an improvement almost instantly.

paradyning · 06/10/2019 07:51

How do you get these things out??

Babbabump · 06/10/2019 19:19

I've upped the teeth brushing and also started drinking a large glass of water before bed! I often wake with a dry mouth and think the 2 are related! Seems to.be having an effect although will keep going and will try the salt water if I have to ... yuck!

@paradyning - I just poke at them with my finger .... I know where the hole is so just press it and they come out ... I've also been known to use the other end of the tweezers...

Do you poke at the side of your throat??

Coldhandscoldheart · 07/10/2019 06:24

Oh yes, dry mouth overnight is definitely a contributor. Do you snore/mouth breathe?

Poke at /around the tonsil usually @paradyning with finger, cotton bud, tweezers. Be careful, the membranes are delicate, so don’t be too forceful. You can usually see them Sitting there if you have them, so you can see where to press them out.

Drastically reduce dairy intake especially cheese, I only take cheese with like 2 litres of water. Keep water with you constantly and drink all the time. Full teeth routine even when you are shattered, brush, floss, internal brushes, tongue scraper and listerine. I find a benefit in reducing sugar but I find it quite restricting so don't always stick to it.

Of everything I think the tongue scraper has made the most difference as I get a very coated tongue, even after one drink of milky tea. Cant use it at the moment when pregnant as my gag reflex is too strong. Pineapple helps clear a fuzzy tongue too.

limonlimon · 07/10/2019 06:35

I bought a water flosser which seems to really be helping and is more efficient and less gross than poking around with my finger. I spray it at my tonsils every morning.

aweedropofsancerre · 07/10/2019 06:38

Are you sure your tonsils are not abscessed? I had lumps of white hard stinky lumps come out when I poked around and my tonsils were removed shortly afterwards. That’s not normal

RolytheRhino · 07/10/2019 06:38

So, do these cause symptoms? Or do people have them without knowing if they don't check?

RolytheRhino · 07/10/2019 06:41

Oh no- just googled 🤢

Talk about a nightmare of intrigue. Scared to look at my own.

Soontobe60 · 07/10/2019 06:43

I had I end of these a coup,e of weeks ago. I thought I had a fish none stuck in my threat so mentioned it to my gp when I went for a blood pressure check. She ended up sending me to hospital! (Also thinking it was a bone). 4 hours later, I saw an ENT doctor and he removed the stone. I was mortified that I'd wasted their time. He advised gargling with salt water every evening.
You can buy a kit to remove them at home.

Babbabump · 07/10/2019 07:48

I haven't always had them (I dont think). About a year ago, I felt something at the back near my tonsils ... after a few days of frustration, I had a poke about and out they popped. I have no pain or inflammation ... just now and again have a few of these to contend with....

My sister has had these for a few years now and can't seem to get rid of them. She suffers with really bad bouts of tonsillitis as well.

Following for advice for her!

Babbabump · 07/10/2019 08:58

I think its tonsillitis which has caused the holes in which the stones are made!

OP posts:
paradyning · 07/10/2019 09:18

I had no idea what they were when I was little. I used to think they came from my stomach and I used to call them sick balls because they used to stink to high heaven.

whatthehek · 07/10/2019 09:39

Have you been to your GP about it if they are recurring/no sign of leaving?

I looked online recently for my sister and found you can buy little kits with syringes and stuff to help clear them out and clean the affected area. I told her that would be her Christmas present if she doesn't go to the doctors 😂

TroysMammy · 07/10/2019 09:45

I clicked on this as I sporadically get tonsil stones. I didn't expect a picture though and as I'm eating porridge it looks the same Grin

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 12/10/2019 08:29

You need to gargle at least 3x a day with salt water. I used to get them really badly but gargling shifted it.

Babbabump · 12/10/2019 10:10

I'll give it a try ...yuck yuck haha
