Just keep an eye on it and if you start to feel any worse you might need to attend your local casualty dept as cysts and abscesses particularly bartholins can make you quite systemically unwell. Bathe in salty water to try and draw the infection out.

Supersimpkin · 09/08/2019 21:06
  1. Hot bath, as hot as you can stand, for 20 min.
  2. Paracetamol and gin.
  3. Don't fall out of bath.
  4. Black biro round it.
  5. Do not lance that, if you've got cellulitis it makes things harder to deal with.
  6. You won't get sepsis by Monday, when you see the GP, even though every MNetter on planet will shriek hopefully you have 2 hrs to live etc.
  7. If it bursts, bandage it up (how? Big plasters from pharmacy and don't move).
  8. You might need ABS even if it bursts, so GP Mon, really.

Yes I'm having an operation next week under general anaesthetic to slice it open and drain it.

PotteringAlong · 09/08/2019 21:53

As tempting as it might be, don’t lance it. GP Monday sounds like a good plan, unless you start feeling worse.

ItsOnAmericasTorturedBrow · 09/08/2019 22:14

Absolutely do not lance it - buy some fucidic acid "Fucidin" ointment from the chemist if you're not prepared to see out of hours doc in the morning but I think you should go

CrotchetyQuaver · 09/08/2019 22:17

I would go out of hours with that, you'll be in agony over the weekend. I had one the same right before Christmas. It's a boil or a a carbuncle as the old school OOH GP who ended up lancing it before his Sunday lunch called it. It was about a week from me first noticing it to it coming to a massive head and bursting.

You should get that looked at, they might want to put you on antibiotics to see if they can head it off at the pass. That didn't work for mine and one Sunday morning I woke in so much pain from the Thing, I was determined to get it dealt with that day, no problems at all getting an appointment I might add (although I did phone at 7.30 am). It actually burst of its own accord whilst I was sitting waiting to see the doctor, but he finished the job and drained it properly then it was packed and dressed and I had to go back a couple of times for them to change the dressing.

Whilst waiting for it to come to a head, I got some comfort from using gauze covered cotton wool held in place with some cohesive bandage, which meant I was able to wear trousers and walk without too much discomfort.

Horehound · 09/08/2019 22:19

This looks good. Take paracetamol, get drunk and squeeze

checkoutchick22 · 09/08/2019 22:21

Have you got any Vicks? Obvs be careful about getting too close to other areas, if you know what I mean...

Moondancer73 · 09/08/2019 22:23

Oh ouch. I think I'd be inclined to go to the out of hours GP

LittleSweet · 09/08/2019 22:24

Or mean that oral antibiotics don't work and you have to get iv antibiotics in hospital. Also my skin went black and I started sepsis. I had an elevated heart rate and cellulitis. Best to get seen.

TheCaddyisaBaddie · 09/08/2019 22:25

Try a bread poultice overnight.

YesQueen · 10/08/2019 01:05

They're sore. I have hidradenitis supprativa so I get them regularly in my groin/crease area. Hot baths, painkillers, warm flannels. I burst mine if they have a head with a sterile scalpel
If it goes giant, you feel unwell, or red lines from it (tracking) etc then see someone
I've got one in my armpit at the minute which I'm hoping will resolve as I've already had two GA to drain it and then plastic surgery under local
Bloody things! I can't wax because of it and have to be v careful shaving

Weenurse · 10/08/2019 01:12

Don’t squeeze as could spread bacteria under the skin and make it worse.
Seek medical treatment for antibiotics ASAP.
Good luck

HUZZAH212 · 10/08/2019 01:55

TCP and hot compresses popped mine a few years back - the smell was grim 🤢

OpheliaTodd · 10/08/2019 02:04

Ooooh!!

ispepsiokay · 10/08/2019 02:05

I've just gotten over having 3 of these. Drs for oral antibiotics as they were a staph infection, they told me to soak it every morning and evening in a hot bath to soften and then squeeze everything out that you can. The gave me a few days to get it to burst before they would've put me in hospital to have it surgically drained.

DH also had one on his knee, his wasn't so easy to treat, he spent a week in hospital on IV antibiotics before surgery to remove it, then it was packed and cleaned every few days for weeks before they decided to use a suction dressing to stop the pis accumulating. In all it took 4 months to heal.

Don't leave yours to get a proper hold

I put this thread on my watch list. The cliffhanger ending is doing my head in. Were you killed by the pus explosion, OP?
