As the title states. This is five year old DS ear.
Waiting for a follow up to aborted microsuction due to his hysterical behaviour at last one where a tranquilliser dart wouldn’t have gone amiss

Is it earwax or a creature !

Wouldn't say it was ear wax - my guess would be small spider, or an insect.
Hope your little boy is ok - the microsuctioning must've been really frightening for him. Whatever it is, it needs to be removed - sooner the better Flowers

Eatmycheese · 19/03/2019 10:31

Thank you Otter
I wondered if the markings were from the microsuction wand but having taken this picture wonder if it is something else.
We are back in two weeks to have another go and I am dreading it,
He’s having drops to soften it but I think he’ll need sedating to have it removed 😢

I worked in ENT for 12 years (not Paediatrics) - my own personal opinion is that I wouldn't be waiting two weeks to have that removed (if it was my son).
May I ask where you took your DS?

Eatmycheese · 19/03/2019 10:50

I’m a bit worried about it
University hospital north Durham

When I had some impacted earwax removed it was almost black in colour. It was also very very sore and tender when the nurse attempted to grab it with tweezers

QuirkyQuark · 19/03/2019 10:58

See if they have a play therapist there. I found the one we had absolutely brilliant with my ds at keeping him calm where I failed completely.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 19/03/2019 10:58

Children's Department?

babysharkah · 19/03/2019 11:01

I'd be taking him back before then! We've had some major wax issues, but that looks wet and weepy?

Eatmycheese · 19/03/2019 11:36

Babysharkah id just out some sodium bicarbonate drops down
And no, Otter it was just ENT. Not paediatric as far I can tell from correspondence etc it was all one dept with a play area for children 🤔

I'm not good with Paediatrics.
What sounded a good suggestion, from a previous poster, was a play therapist.
Is there a Children's Hospital near you? Is your son complaining of pain?

starfishmummy · 20/03/2019 15:04

My sons ent consultant would pull stuff out with a pointy probe thing.

His were usually further down than that looks.

GP has used tweezers to pull sweet corn and bits of toenails out of his ear....he's 20 (SN)

BlodwynBludd · 28/03/2019 16:53

Any update op? How's your ds?

visitorthedog · 30/03/2019 00:49

@eatmycheese - hope this was resolved 🤞🏻

Eatmycheese · 30/03/2019 07:59

Sadly not. He has to have a GA and it cleaned that way as the second attempt was even worse.
Thanks for asking though

It is just wax though thankfully

Oh goodness your poor boy. I have narrow ear canals and have my ears syringed with water twice a year, I know auctioning is recommended over syringing but I can’t stand it just like your son.

visitorthedog · 30/03/2019 19:18

Oh no, that must have been worrying for you, really glad it’s done though Flowers

Eatmycheese · 31/03/2019 07:27

He has still got the blocked ear ; now we have to wait for date for the op.
Am dreading it

I had an operation under GA when I was 7, to removed a massive build up. I just remember the yummy hospital food (My sweet naivety!!!) and getting presents!

Fingers crossed all goes well.
