The skin around my nail is swollen and hot and I think it looks like there's some pus collecting on one side. It's very painful, especially when touched.

Quick Google says it's something called Paronychia and it needs a scalpel in it Sad I'm not keen on that idea.

Anything I can do to relieve the pain before I decide to book myself in with the GPs come Monday?

Please excuse the state of my nails I'm on the go 24/7 with a newborn and toddler and barely manage a shower ATM Blush

If you haven't already popped it, you may well find that it bursts overnight. Don't deny yourself the satisfaction of that flow of pus.... get a needle in it now, this minute!

Sorry for lack of update! Ended up taking a pin to it. I'll attach pics but they're not very good as phone wouldn't focus properly.
Had to pierce it a few times then put some antiseptic on.
Its still a bit red and I can still feel it if I knock it on something but apart from that all good.

Ooh, that was a good one! If it happens again, try running a cocktail stick under the cuticle. Mine always releases from there.

Keep applying heat. I use a face cloth soaked in water as hot as I can bear and wrung out. Then use the cloth to gently squeeze the pus to the pin holes and drain as much as you can. Dab on the antiseptic cream and a plaster and it will heal.
If the redness around the area starts to move up your finger, then you need a GP.
They are so painful, but so satisfying to drain. I have a lovely video of my last one but cant figure out how to turn off the sound to post it!
