Verruca help - with photo

DD has a small verruca. I started blasting it with bazuka and thought it had gone. Apparently it hasn't she just didn't tell me Hmm it's now massive. I have put the stuff on it again for about a week now. Yesterday I managed to make a hole in it by accident. It looks disgusting and I've no idea if I can even get rid of it as I've never had one. So please sporners behold this and help! Do I just keep doing bazuka and file it, do I attack it and make another hole? Is it a doctors job?

I would keep treating it and filing it. Maybe lay off the bazuka for a bit and cover with duct tape?

Duct tape deprives it of oxygen I think but it is reputed to work, not sure how to do it though, you'd have to Google

We did duct tape on the middle child. A bit of duct tape attached with surgical tape, changed every couple of days or when it looked like it was coming loose.
After about ten days the core of the verucca came out. It was fabulous.

I took mine to a chiropodist(/podiatrist?) and he was totally awesome, attacked said verruca with a true sporner's enthusiasm! He did say kids' ones are easier to get rid of as their skin bounces back; my elderly adult skin is still lumpy and hideous.

Def worth taking it to a professional if in doubt, I wasn't sure if the bazuka had killed mine or not (not, as it turned out).

Dd1 found duct tape uncomfortable and difficult to keep on. Try nail varnish, does the same thing

Dm is a chiropodist, hates bazuka, says it's too harsh and doesn't always work

Black nail varnish painted over the top will kill it. I dig mine out with sterilised tweezers but this might not be a good idea so don't take my word for it being safe.

I had a phone consultation with the GP recently as DS had about 15 verrucas on his toes.

Apparently the creams don't work. The only way to speed up getting rid of them is to file them every day after a bath. DS did this and within two weeks, they had gone (they do go black first!).

Keep filing but cut up emery boards and dispose of each piece after you use it otherwise you keep reinfecting

The only thing that works for me is tea tree oil.

I put a few drops directly on to the verrucca then a plaster or cotton wool/tape. Normally do it once a day when I go to bed.

T'is magic stuff tea tree oil...

We used that Bazucca stuff, then I put plasters on to strangle them. Seemed to work for dd1, but dd2's took months longer even though they had them the same time Confused

You need Apple cider vinegar!

On a bit of cotton wool, put on the verucca and then taped (preferably duct tape) for a few days.

That'll kill it.

The only thing we found to work was freezing. And after months of about ten, they went in weeks. The freezing was honestly amazing, and easy to do at home. Will find a link

We have been attacking dd1's recently. It is a persistent bugger. Have tried the usual bazuka, freezing etc... GP gave us super strong stuff. You have to soak foot then peel off dead skin around the verruca before treating it. Put the stuff on then cover with tape. Repeat. 2 years she has had them, finally they are shrinking.

Isn't it true that nothing really works, but in the end your immune system zaps them. I had a massive one that I tried everything with, I would think it was gone (huge hole in foot), then back it would come. Then one day it was gone, just like that. No treatment as I'd given up. It just vanished.

I have had them in the past and they are nasty little things to get rid of.
I tried all the bazuka gel and it didn't work for me, as I think it's similar to Zovirax and you have to get it in the very early stages and then it could work.
I went to the Chiropodist and they used the Freezing treatment( 4 sessions and it was gone).
I would take my daughter for this treatment if she had a verrucae.

DS has one very similar and we're going to dr for it. Bazuka works apparently if they're just beginning, but when they get deeper it loses its effectiveness.

Duct tape! (Note all the other rememdies here involve covering it with tape - it's the tape that does it!)

Cover it with a bit of tape, change every few days

I've also just discovered ds has a verucca that's resurrected itself. I thought Bazooka had got rid of it but it obviously didn't and it is now back and in need of something.

I stared at all the different things in Boots wondering what to get. Not sure about bazooka again as it hurt ds a bit and took forever and didn't work in the end. Was a bit worried by the freezing one - remember going to the local cottage hospital to get my veruccas frozen and just remember that it hurt so worried about doing that to ds.

Intruigued by nail varnish instead of duct tape. How do you do it? Does it have to be dark to keep light out (not that his feet see much daylight!) or is clear or indeed any old colour or brand that I have around suitable?

And do you paint it on and leave it or remove it (if so with what?)?
For how long?
Do you need to file it or cover with a plaster or anything else?
And if you do put nail varnish on it, does it mean that he can do PE barefoot if necessay (apparently he has one lesson of 'gym' which is barefooted a week at the moment)

Sorry for so many questions, thanks in advance for your help.

Nail varnish worked one in about 10 days. Put on thick layer of a dark colour (to block light and air). I had a nice plum shade.
Then after a shower in a day or two, I filed Verruca and reapplied varnish. Left on and reapplied and filed after next wash. After about 4 applications and filing, it was gone!
Duct tape didn't work for me as it kept falling off.

That needs filing! File everyday. It's black so it's dying. When you've filed you can pull ouy the core with an old pair of tweezers.

Verrucae are caused by a virus. You eventually develo your own immunity to them and they disappear. In the meantime, the 'treatments' can sometimes make your foot more painful than the actual verrucae do. Therefore, I would only treat them if they are causing problems.

Whatever it is when any verrucas we've had in this house have started to turn black it means they're on their way outGrin
