I've just spent a very satisfying and enjoyable 20 mins watching tonsil stone videos. I even managed to get some from my own tonsils afterwards. I feel great.

Does anyone else get them?

You probably don't know that you have them itsaconundrum... but you do notice they're not there when they come off. It's like your airwaves are more open IYSWIM.

I got all excited about this and was about to get my mirror when I remembered I have no tonsils. Damnit!

FunkinEll · 16/09/2016 21:45

They smell rank. I can't see mine but I can tell if I rub my tonsils and I can taste the smell.

Mine are only small, never big like the brilliant YouTube ones.

Also gutted not to have any tonsils!

pastabest · 16/09/2016 21:50

I use the end of the arm of my glasses... It's the right combination of blunt and pointy and the right length. Press gently next to the stone and they tend to pop right out. Only ever seem to get them on my left tonsil.

They are utterly utterly minging and my very existence on mumsnet has been justified by this thread as I don't dare discuss this particular affliction in real life.

therealsquireofwideacre · 16/09/2016 21:51

I can get tonsil stones out with my tongue easily and also get my tongue up the back of my nose and fiddle about with my adenoids. They go kind of crinkly when I have a cold and if you push against one to open the airway on that side, the other one closes. (I don't get out much.)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/09/2016 21:58

I usually quite relish the sporner threads but these tonsil stone ones rank me out. Maybe it's because I have no tonsils.....?

peaceloveandbiscuits · 16/09/2016 22:02

Also gutted not to have adenoids now Envy

CurlsLDN · 16/09/2016 22:11

Um sorry to derail slightly, but can any of you mouth Sporners help me identify my tongue lump? It's a solid fleshy lump at the back of my tongue, right below my uvula. It swells up when I have a sore throat (or I have a sore throat when it swells up?)
I have always had it, only recently wondered if it's normal. Can't find any suggestion of what body part it might be on Google, and when I went to the gp she couldn't see it and looked at me like i was mad - though due to its position right at the back of my tongue it is quite hard to see when not fully swollen up. Here's a pic. Anyone else get this? (Sorry for early morning tongue)

How do you know when you have them?

Is it just something you look for?

pastabest · 17/09/2016 10:04

HowDoYou I can't speak for everyone else but I find that once the stones get to a certain size I can feel them at the back of my throat. It kind of feels like you have a bit of food stuck or something behind your tonsil. Once you can feel them you can generally see them, they just look like a white spot on your tonsil ... Until you start prodding and they come out!

I think my biggest one was the size of a pea, it dropped out and then another one the same size followed when I coughed/gagged. Traumatising!

HowDoYouGetPikachuOnToABus · 17/09/2016 11:11

That does sound traumatising but I can't help my mouth watering at the thought of them. Blush

I need to find someone with tonsils and see if I can see them.

torthecatlady · 21/09/2016 00:06

I kind of miss them! I used to get tonsil stones (and tonsillitis) all the time. But since they were removed 10 years ago, I have only had tonsillitis once l, which was this year!

Apparently, it happens! And boy, was it worse than I remember!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/09/2016 15:53

Catlady yes apparently you can get tonsillitis after removal. It depends how much of a stump they leave when they remove them and if you get a lot of scar tissue. I still get it most winters and it is horrific. My dr refers to it as 'stumpitis' which sounds delightful doesn't it?

torthecatlady · 21/09/2016 17:04

averagebear stumpitus Grin Well, I hope I don't have it again!!
