Savings or investing? Cash ISAs or stocks and shares ISAs? Should you invest for yourself or your children…...it’s safe to say there is a fair amount to think about when it comes to your money and it can be difficult to sift through all the information out there to find out what you really need to know. We conducted a survey last year with over 1,500 MNers & GNers and found that 18% would like to invest their money but don’t know the best way to do so and 10% don’t know the best way to save their money. With that in mind, Legal & General are here to answer any questions you have around savings and investments.

Here is some more information on Helena Morrissey from Legal & General: “Helena Morrissey DBE, Head of Personal Investing. Helena joined Legal & General in 2017 as Head of Personal Investing and has been leading the drive to ensure that the benefits of investing are better understood and widely available, with a particular focus on improving women’s financial wellbeing. Prior to joining Legal & General Helena was CEO of Newton Investment Management.”

Here is what Legal & General have to say: “A nudge in the right direction can often kick start a saving habit that can help with a more secure financial future. Getting started even with a little and often for you and/or your children can really pay off over the long term. It’s never too late to start saving and investing, so if you haven’t started yet what’s stopping you?”

Whether you have questions about the best way to begin investing, or creating an ISA account, how much you should be saving or any questions around how to save for your child’s future, ask them on the thread below and we will choose 10 for Helena to answer.

Everyone who posts their question on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where 3 MNers will win a £100 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

Whats the best long term option for investing for our children?

Carlylb24 · 16/02/2019 10:31

I'm due to have a baby at the end of March and wanted to open some sort of account for her so was wondering what the options were for a savings account? or anything else you can suggest?
Thank you

Should I start a pension for my little girl, now?

strawberrisc · 16/02/2019 11:04

I started a savings scheme for my daughter when she was born. It is in a Child Trust Fund in her name. Sadly, as she approaches the date when she can withdraw the money I am worried about some of the choices she has been making. There are mental health and other issues.

I put the money aside to help her future and hoped she would spend it on driving lessons or money for a deposit or even a gap year. However, now it seems it would just be frittered away. Is there anything I can do?

libra101 · 16/02/2019 11:18

I have been thinking of helping my child to buy his first home in several years.

Is the Help to buy ISA a good idea, ( I believe the government gives a bonus) or are there better ideas to contribute to his future?

malicem · 16/02/2019 11:37

Is it better to overpay mortgage or keep saving in a savings account that has a higher interest rate?

sheilads105 · 16/02/2019 11:55

Are premium bonds the best idea at the moment with interest rates being so low?

chrissy53438 · 16/02/2019 12:14

Should I be focusing my money on putting into my pension or paying off my mortgage early?

voyager50 · 16/02/2019 12:17

Is it worth investing in Premium Bonds for children?

I know the money will be safe for life and is easy to access without notice if needed but of course there is no interest paid and with inflation the value goes down but there is also the chance of a big win so there are reasons for or against.

What do think? thank you

lillypopdaisyduke · 16/02/2019 13:03

I have a workplace pension, and I have nominated that my death grant should go 50/50 to my children - as they are still under 18 - do I have to make provision that this is put in trust for them - and if not can be husband get access to it if the worst happens to me ? (I want it for them to give them the best start in life)

jacqui5366 · 16/02/2019 13:04

I have 10 years pension built up, but want to buy back years, is it better to buy back with my local government pension, or with an external pension provider.

daniel1996 · 16/02/2019 13:07

I have only just enrolled in a pension scheme with my company, but am actively looking for a new job with more hours - how easy is it to transfer my pension contributions to a my new employer ?

footdust · 16/02/2019 13:07

what are the 'safest' options re investments?
premium bonds are great but with little return if any.

lovemyflipflops · 16/02/2019 13:22

Is it better to pay my mortgage off quicker and have the equity in my home as a pension lump sum - or put the money in a pension pot ?

Elllicam · 16/02/2019 13:27

Can you explain (in fairly easy terms) the best way to pick a savings account for children? What are the differences between them? Thank you

Emmax12 · 16/02/2019 13:32

Should I save into a pension or just have savings myself that I keep?

epicclusterfuck · 16/02/2019 13:37

What to do with pensions that are spread around different providers?

How do you know when you can retire?

Where to save or invest a lump sum from a house sale that might be needed as a deposit on a future house purchase?

Montydoo · 16/02/2019 13:37

My grandma has said she has left myself and my brother £50k in her will, which, yes is nice to have, but when/if the time comes, what would be the best place to invest, we are thinking of buying a property to rent, so have the income from that plus the hopeful increase in value in the property. Do you think this is a feasible idea (we will get contracts drawn up and go through a property management company) PS my gran is 70 and in tip top health

I have money saved for an extension, where should I keep this money in order to make the most interest- I will need access to it in 6 months.

beckyinman · 16/02/2019 15:01

I've seen a lot of adverts for investment apps that round up everyday spends. Is it worth looking at these, or just having a regular payment into savings?

Funkyferret · 16/02/2019 15:18

I would like to move some of my savings to an investment fund. Which UK-based funds would you recommend I consider? I am particularly interested in ethical investors.

addverbaan · 16/02/2019 15:52

I am saving to buy a house in the next 2 years - is it worth getting an Isa for this or is the time to short?

emmmaaa26 · 16/02/2019 15:56

How much should I be saving for a pension as someone who has no pension at all. Im 26.

Gentlygently · 16/02/2019 16:00

Given only 10 questions are going to be picked, can I also recommend www.moneysavingexpert.com

They have easy read guides/articles that cover some of the premium bond/ISA/interest rate questions.
