As we head into the colder months, sniffles and sneezes may become more common. Courtesy of Nurofen for Children, we’ve teamed up with Dr. Pixie McKenna who is on hand to answer your questions on keeping your children healthy this winter, specifically looking at colds and flu, fever and sleep difficulties. As well as being a medical expert, Pixie is also a mother so she’s had first-hand experience of looking after her own child and is here to share her top tips and advice with you.

Here’s a little bit more about Dr. Pixie:

Pixie comes from a family background of medicine, being the third generation of doctors in her family. She has over 13 years of medical experience since qualifying and is currently a practising GP at London’s Harley Street.

Post your questions to Dr. Pixie by the 27th November and we will pick 20 for her to respond to. Everyone who posts a question will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £150 Love2Shop voucher. A link to her responses will be posted by 4 January.

My six month old is suffering from dry sore skin around the chin and mouth. I think it's called Chaps. What is the best way to treat this?

Cataline · 27/11/2016 09:14

What causes my child's skin to be so much worse in winter? The condition of his skin seems to directly correlate to the temperature, very dry and itchy. Not quite eczema but certainly very similar. We use a mix of coconut oil and very mild betnovate which seems to help. Are there any better options?
Many thanks!

sweir1 · 27/11/2016 09:28

What are the benefits of the flu jab for under 5s?

user1472646069 · 27/11/2016 10:08

Someone told me it's better to feel the back of a child's neck to gauge their tempearature rather than their forehead. Is this right.

wef1984 · 27/11/2016 10:27

Should I give my 2yr old the flu vaccine? This is the only vaccine I am unsure of.

Marg2k8 · 27/11/2016 11:54

compy99 · 27/11/2016 17:08

are there any steps that we can take to reduce the cycle of colds, would taking any vitamins or supplements really help? our little chap is 3 and seems to get one cold after another.

fifimummy · 27/11/2016 18:25

This is a weird one! Hoping you can settle an argument between myself & the OH Confused
He likes to sleep with some upstairs windows a little bit open, as it gets quite stuffy, especially as the central heating has been used.....I think that the draughts could contribute to the kids snotty colds that they get, but he says that the fresh air makes up for it
Who's right???

SavannahLevine · 27/11/2016 19:52

My 6 year old son is due to have the nasal flu spray in school this week, but he has had a cold for the past week, and over the last couple of days has developed a cough and needed to use his blue inhaler several times.

Is it still ok for him to have the flu spray, or should we wait until his cough is gone?

devito92 · 27/11/2016 19:53

How best to deal with a cough

SSCRASE123 · 27/11/2016 20:08

What's your view on the nasal spray flu vaccine ?, reading reports it seems very ineffective.

Cathp808 · 27/11/2016 20:13

ASTHMA : my little boy has mild asthma and has just been offered the flu vaccine but I said I would think about it as I don't want to fill him with unnecessary chemicals. But do you think he should?

vickyors · 27/11/2016 20:39

My baby gets a cold an immediately starts throwing up her milk. It's ridiculous. Is there anything we should do? Should we not give her milk when she has a cold? It is dreadful and we now have a bowl in her room as soon as she gets a sniffle- often the whole feed comes back- particularly her last feed of the night...

JoJoBaldwin · 27/11/2016 21:02

I am considering giving my daughter a multivitamin this winter to help protect against colds but I'm confused about their efficacy. Should I not bother?

Spices001 · 27/11/2016 21:11

Does my daughter need the vitamin c pastille we use in winter if we are having our 5 a day?

Maclairey · 27/11/2016 21:13

Can someone please tell me how to teach my nearly 4 year old to blow his nose?! I have tried every trick in the book but he just doesn't get it. He drives me potty with his constant sniffing!
