This is the thread for the 10 MNers who went along to the new look Beefeater in Guildford Parkway for the launch event of their new partnership with the Mr Men and Little Miss characters.

Beefeater say of the partnership: "Our tie in with Mr Men and Little Miss reignites the infamous partnership Beefeater had with the Mr Men Little Miss brand in the 1980's and '90s, forming part of Beefeater’s 40th celebrations in 2014. Throughout the two-year tie-up, families will have an opportunity to engage with the Mr Men Little Miss characters in a host of ways at the restaurants - including a brand new Mr. Men themed activity pack, balloons, new Kids Eat Free on Saturday’s offer as well as an all new kids menu including a free drink - we'd love to hear what MNers think about it all!"

So, if you attended the event, please answer the following questions. All attending MNers who add their feedback would be then entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 Beefeater voucher. Do also post any photos from the event on the thread. Thanks.

a) What do you think about the revitalised two year partnership with Beefeater and Mr. Men?
b) Please tell us your thoughts about the different activities of the day, from the Adam Hargreaves workshop, to the face painting, balloons and activity pack?
c) What was your experience of the all new Mr. Men kids menu? We'd love to hear your thoughts on the menu choices, offers and quality of the food?
d) Overall, how would you rate your experience at the launch of the new look Beefeater and Mr. Men restaurant partnership?

If you didn't attend the launch, please share on this thread your all time favourite Mr Men or Little Miss character and you'll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer picked at random will win a £100 Beefeater voucher!

Thanks and good luck!

This takes me back!

I always loved Mr Messy. I think he was so imaginatively drawn, and I could relate to him. Mr Bump too.

Must check out the books for Dd and other kids in the family.

I love Mr Forgetful. - "There's a goose asleep in the rain"!

Non-tester - Little Miss Chatterbox is my favourite. I was called this as a child and it was a stocking filler for me soon after my Sister was born as I told Mum and Dad everything she needed, being the ultimate chatterbox. I still do it today.

thewomaninwhite · 07/11/2014 21:09

Mr Tickle. Just because I remember reading this book in particular as a child.

GoldiandtheBears · 07/11/2014 21:10

My family and I visited the Beefeater and Mr Men & Little Miss new menu launch last Saturday. We are mum, dad and two girls aged 4 and 2.

There were a couple of reasons we were keen to go the event. First of all, my daughter, age 4, lets call her Little Miss Sunshine, has been learning all about the Mr Men at school where she has just started in reception. Brilliant, I thought! Secondly, we have just moved to the area and are scoping out new places for family meals at the weekends. So far, we have ventured mainly to pubs / gastro food places, but have found that the children don't eat much as very little child-friendly food is normally available. So this seemed ideal.

The day did not disappoint at all. Our Little Miss Sunshine screamed with excitement when we entered the doors, greeted of course, by the real Little Miss Sunshine. We were able to get some lovely photos here. Unfortunately, Little Miss Tiny (DD2) was a bit overwhelmed by Mr Tickle and didn't want to be included, but hey she is only 2 and he does have very long arms!

The restaurant was kitted out perfectly for the event, we grabbed a few yellow Little Miss Sunshine balloons and spotted the bean bags near the reading area. The girls were keen to raid the collection and delighted at all the books of the characters that were there. It is quite nice browse the whole collection at once.

The girls did not try the face painting as they were a bit too bashful, but we did marvel at the creations that had been adorned on the older children's faces ("if only we were as brave...").

Meeting the author was fantastic. We sat near the front and got to see all of the great pictures he was drawing whilst we tried to draw our own. By this time, we had discovered the activity packs and magazines and found it easy to draw our own characters! At the end of the talk, Little Miss Sunshine took the opportunity to get Adam's signature on her own book. WOW! He even wrote her name and a message.

We had preselected our meals, so mummy chose was everyone was having in advance. It would have been nice to let the children pick as the menu was very inviting for children and perhaps they may have been tempted to try something new. I liked the idea of naming the meals for each character. I also liked that there were many 'add-ons' such as veg sticks that could be included in a meal. I always find variety and lots of little things helps to keep the meal interesting. Myself and DH had steak, while the girls had a Steak Burger and Poppin Chicken.

The meal did take some time to arrive as it was such a large guest party, but this did not bother us as there were plentiful starters, the Rosemary and Onion flatbread was especially nice. The girls at this point, were still engrossed in their activity packs, but were nicely surprised with the food when it arrived. Little Miss Sunshine ate all of the Steak Burger and Little Miss Tiny had a good go at the Poppin Chicken. The steaks were cooked to perfection, which I find rare these days (no pun intended), so I thought it was very good. The children's food was nicely presented, with good portion sizes. The Poppin Chicken was particularly nice, really chunky pieces!

Unfortunately, having been in the venue for several hours and it being post lunch, DD2, Little Miss Tiny was in serious need of a sleep and we had to leave not long after the meal. This meant that we were unable to stay for the Ice Cream Sundae making. I promised Little Miss Sunshine, that we could do this at home instead as I was keen to keep the momentum going!

The girls were completely inspired by the Mr Men party. Not only did Little Miss Sunshine spend the rest of day using the stickers and drawing the characters, we created a small book of our experience and took it into school on Monday to show her class, complete with the autographed copy of our book. Boy, was the teacher impressed! Our youngest daughter, Little Miss Tiny, has also since become the world's biggest Tickler which has been an ongoing source of amusement for us all.

So, in answer to the original questions....

I think Beefeater have made a great decision to tie up with Mr Men & Little Miss. They are irresistible to children and have timeless appeal.

The different activities for children were well planned. They appealed to different ages of children and gave lots of opportunities to find out more about the books and the characters. We will definitely buy the Mr Men magazine and probably some more books from the collection.

The new menu was great. There is lots of choice for even the fussiest eaters and it was good quality. The characters can provide a backdrop for the meal and make it extra fun!

The restaurant staff and PR guys did a great job accommodating everyone.

We are sure to visit the Beefeater again at the weekends to try out the new menu again and would recommend it to family and friends.

a) What do you think about the revitalised two year partnership with Beefeater and Mr. Men?
I didn't know about this prior to going there last weekend but do think it's a great idea. Excellent as it will excite the children and the parents can have a relaxing meal too, winners all round.

b) Please tell us your thoughts about the different activities of the day, from the Adam Hargreaves workshop, to the face painting, balloons and activity pack?
My daughter is 8 and Adam Hargreaves is by far her favourite author. She is working her way through the list of books until she has collected them all. The activites were perfect in variety and length of time they took to keep all the children entertained. The face painting was incredible, very true to he books.

c) What was your experience of the all new Mr. Men kids menu? We'd love to hear your thoughts on the menu choices, offers and quality of the food?
The quality of the food was superb, although I would have liked to have more vegetables. It was nice to have the bread and mushrooms as starter. My steak was perfectly cooked and my daughter's pasta was just the right size for her.

d) Overall, how would you rate your experience at the launch of the new look Beefeater and Mr. Men restaurant partnership?
We had a lovely day and my daughter was over the moon with being there. She absolutely loved meeting and talking to Adam Hargreaves and having her face painted.
My only complaint really was that we had to wait ages for our meal. Most other people had finished theirs before ours had arrived. However saying that, the staff were excellent and looked after us. They apologised many, many times and were really lovely. I think they were just swamped by needing to serve so many people at once.
We were quite happy waiting as had had our starters and just enjoyed being there. My dh and ds were off at scout camp and it was good being out with just my dd having "girly" time!
The icing on the cake for us was dd winning the ice cream decorating competition and getting a signed drawing to take home.
I would certainly go to Beefeater again and would recommend them to others.

Doubtfuldaphne · 09/11/2014 11:27

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for mr tickle, mainly because his arms are so long they look quite ridiculous. I love him.

Thankyou very much for choosing us for this event, we had a good time.

a) What do you think about the revitalised two year partnership with Beefeater and Mr. Men?
I think it's a good idea. Not sure it would make me go to Beefeater for that reason but when there, it's great.

b) Please tell us your thoughts about the different activities of the day, from the Adam Hargreaves workshop, to the face painting, balloons and activity pack?

The activity pack was great, and did keep the children entertained (necessary as we had a very long wait for food). There was definitely more to do in it than your average colouring-in menu available at many similar places. The workshop was good though I agree with a previous poster who said it would have been nice to hear more from Adam himself rather than the very enthusiastic compere (who kept saying 'Mr Tiggle' and 'tiggling' instead of Tickle and tickling, but maybe it was just me that found that annoying!!). The workshop part was a bit cramped though and our family were one of the last to arrive so my kids couldn't really get a good seat to get involved.
Balloons were good but did run out and the face painting was very good, and we didn't have to wait long.

c) What was your experience of the all new Mr. Men kids menu? We'd love to hear your thoughts on the menu choices, offers and quality of the food?

There was a pretty good choice of food on the kids menu, what you'd expect really from similar places. It seems like it is good value, with Kids eating free on Saturdays I think and even the prices at other times not too bad. Not particularly fresh or healthy I would say but it was as I expected for a chain place. My two girls chose the cod bites, chips and peas and the spaghetti bolognaise which came with garlic bread and a little piece corn on the cob. They certainly enjoyed them but were extremely hungry by the time the food came. The spaghetti bolognaise did have that classic microwaved artificial taste and texture but dd2 did enjoy it and ate it all. The fish in the cod bites seemed of good quality.
In terms of the adult food, I had a rump steak. Now maybe I'm being picky, but the Beefeater we were add was very nicely decorated and done out. There was quite a lot of wall art about beef and a couple of wall art listing well done/medium/rare etc. However, I was not asked how I would like my steak cooked! DH thinks I'm being unreasonable and it's not 'that sort of place' but why have the options up on the wall in wall art then! That point aside, the steak was fine but a bit chewy and probably not the best quality. Chips were ok but a little under-done for all of us, possibly because they were in a rush to get them out to us.
Complimentary starters of cheesy garlic bread and breaded mushrooms were nice if a little greasy.
Service was ok apart from the huge delay with our food. The event organisers came across as frazzled in the way they spoke with each other in earshot of us.

d) Overall, how would you rate your experience at the launch of the new look Beefeater and Mr. Men restaurant partnership?

The environment was great, the restaurant really nicely done out. There were lots of booths which we like. The entertainment was good but at times a little chaotic and there were unfortunate things like the staff clearing away our half finished activity books whilst we were outside for a photo with the characters.

Unfortunately we were one of the unlucky families who had to wait a VERY long time for our food, at least an hour after the starters and most people around us had finished. The kitchen did seem overwhelmed by getting all the orders out at once. We patiently waited initially but then I wished I had complained earlier (like some others did) as there had been an issue and the kitchen had not been preparing our order, despite our waitress taking our names when we had sat down. The event organisers were very apologetic and although it did definitely put a damper on our day as the kids were really struggling with the wait, it would not stop me going back to Beefeater as there's no reason to think service wouldn't normally be fine.

The children enjoyed the day and their food and it definitely sparked their interest in Mr Men, since the day we have had Mr Men/Little Miss books requested as bed time stories and lots of drawings of the characters.

Cherryjellybean · 11/11/2014 20:32

Little miss sunshine and little miss tiny are both favourites in our house :)

mummyofcutetwo · 11/11/2014 23:23

My favourite Mr Men character is Mr Happy. My 2yo loves him and has a Mr Happy patch on his nursery bag so he can identify his own things. It's wonderful that something so small can give him such a feeling of independence.
