Every family has certain things they look for when booking a holiday, whether that's a brilliant kids' club, a splash pool, an easy walk to the beach, short flight times or simply staying within budget.

We'd love to know what are your family's holiday non-negotiables? What features, facilities or little extras help you choose the right holiday, and what makes a trip feel like a great fit for your family?

  • Share your must-haves and tips in the thread below by 01/07 to be entered into a prize draw.
  • One lucky contributor will receive a £200 VEX voucher for a store of their choice.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

I posted upthread about how I start choosing holidays based on location, not hotels. If the sponsor of this thread can do anything to improve listings by giving more information - and photos - of resorts, I would be very happy.

A child-friendly hotel but in a quiet area.

A decent variety of good edible and safe food - no flies please !
We've had some horrors in the past, if we can all eat food which we all enjoy in a clean cool hotel with a lovely pool we are all happy.

Accommodation that hasn't been used by smokers/ vapers or pets.

A short transfer. After hours queueing at the airport and then a long flight and them more queues to leave the airport and board the bus I don't want to spend hours on a coach.

I alsways bring a spare Kindle. The thought of one breaking on holiday leaving me with nothing to read terrifies me.

Four star luxury minimum. Oh, and adults only. (Been there, done all that with the kids, so glad it's no longer necessary. )
