For parents there are lots of benefits of going on holiday by ferry - the ease of driving straight from your door to your destination, the lack of luggage restrictions, the space and facilities onboard, not to mention the excitement of the crossing! Any travel with children takes preparation though, so we’d like you to share your top tips and recommendations for making ferry travel with children a breeze.

● Post your tips in the thread below to be entered into a prize draw
● One lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice.

Here’s what Brittany Ferries has to say:

“Brittany Ferries is an award winning Ferry Travel and holiday company who are experts in Western Europe, and winners of the Best Travel Company for Family Holidays at the 2022 British Travel Awards, voted by consumers. We offer a choice of routes from UK and Ireland to France and Spain that save you miles of driving, avoids airport queues and delays, and offers award winning on board service with space and comfort, ensuring you are on holiday from the moment you drive aboard. ”

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

We love a good audio book, a tablet with games, a neck cushion for the long car journey and telling them what we have planned and when - that way a myriad of questions are answered and saves some stress. A couple. of charged powerbanks for tablets and headphones are a must for the travel bag too

Having just done two ferry crossings with Brittany Ferries and two kids, I echo what a lot of previous posters have said which is get a daytime cabin if you are over 5 hours of sailing. We had driven a long way to get to the port in the UK and had a long drive after and the opportunity to have a nap for both parents (one at a time obviously) would have been great.

100% book a cabin if it is a longer crossing!

If you’re on an overnight crossing with no cabin, bring some inflatable lilos and blankets and get to the front of the seated area where there’s some extra legroom. Get the lilo on the floor and use it as a makeshift bed 😆

Book a cabin for a long journey. Always more snacks & change of clothes than you think. Small games you can play & transport.

Bring binoculars and search for dolphins, large jellyfish, seagulls, and dry land the other side of your crossing! It passes the time in a fun way.

Plenty of games!

Start with the Isle of Wight, nice short trip, you can practically see both shores at once so figure out how the children travel. Only time for a quick snack and your back on dry land. Plus the Isle of Wight is wonderful.

If you can stretch to it book a cabin. Take plenty of fun activities - eg cards, drawing things. Take some ginger biscuits and peppermints to avoid sea sickness.

Double and Uno. Small and tournament worthy!
