Keeping children entertained and keeping their minds active can be difficult, particularly when you’re limited to your home. Spring often signals it's time to get out and about to explore, and Equazen would like to hear your tips for keeping your children entertained with home activities while we're in lockdown.

Here’s what Equazen has to say: “Keeping the mind active helps us to maintain a healthy brain.
Did you know our brains are made up of 60% Fat? These fatty acids are ‘essential’ because they cannot be made by the body and must be obtained through the diet.
Equazen offer clinically researched high-quality fish oil supplements. Unique and specific formulations of essential fatty acids Omega-3 EPA and DHA with Omega-6 GLA to help support brain function*. Perfect for those active days with the family!
Buy now on the Equazen website and receive a free puzzle cube with every purchase.
^Also look out for Equazen brain games, coming soon!
*DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250mg of DHA.”

How are you planning on keeping your children entertained from home? Will you be digging out the board games to help keep their minds active? Perhaps you’re lucky enough to have a garden you’re able to get out and play in? Or do you have a child who is more than happy to activate their imagination with a good book?

However you’re keeping your children entertained, share on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

We’ve been making the most of the good weather recently and spending most of the day out in the garden. He’s been riding round on his bike and we’ve done painting and playing hide and seek.
I bought a tuff tray which I’ve filled with water or he’s played with his toy animals on. Movies123 He gets bored easily so I have to think of new things each day but I’m enjoying trying to be creative with cardboard and glue and making things with cornflour!

Mine are only 2 and 4, a lovely local preschool teacher has set up a Facebook page and is giving challenges for them everyday. I've also found drama tots online and my 4 year old loves cosmic yoga. We also are lucky to have a garden to play in.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 20/04/2020 10:14

They basically entertain themselves. DD draws a lot.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 20/04/2020 16:58

Joining in with them, they are a lot happier and play a lot longer when you join in. I usually use this time to get them outside

Setting them a project, like junk modeling using the recycling and art and craft stuff, lego building, write a story etc - I use this time to do jobs around the house

Get them involved in cooking and other jobs around the house, they know it means it will be done faster so there is more time that I can spend with them. Letting them choose a recipe gets them excited to be involved in cooking

Lots of sunshine in the garden!

Gazelda · 21/04/2020 13:12

Lots of craft.
Enjoy the garden
Keep in touch with family and friends on FaceTime.
But most of all - loads of laughing and silliness. Dressing up, strange hairstyles, wearing sunnies to brush teeth, failing miserably at creating an origami elephant, and more.

jitterbugintomybrain · 21/04/2020 18:22

Helping out with chores, bleep test, volleyball, footie, homework, movie nights, quizzes with friends and family. Reading. 2 eldest disappear to their rooms for hours (17 and 15). Whatever it takes to get us through this!

Mel0Dram4 · 21/04/2020 18:51

We are really enjoying making our garden a nice space to play in. I scrubbed and repaired our old slides and sandpit. We’ve had fun planting loads of seeds, herbs, vegetables and flowers!

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 22/04/2020 16:23

Thank goodness for the BBC bitesized games today.

The trampoline has been another really good buy.

Both of mine are currently on video conferences with different friends.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 22/04/2020 20:46

We don’t have a huge garden but it’s big enough for a trampoline, which has been used to the max in the last few weeks! We have a raised bed where the kids have helped me make a big hotel and a washing-up bowl pond and have planted their own seeds. The RSPB has an online wildlife ranger badge series with nature-based activities we can do at home. These have been great for entertaining the DC on lockdown.

Daughter is now 15 so now quite independent. She loves reading and plays the piano and violin so has been practising. I have given her sewing projects and she loves baking. However I realise it must me much more challenging entertaining younger children. Daughter has had her GCSEs cancelled so after the initial shock is now relieved not to have any exam stress!

BuryBury · 23/04/2020 11:26

Luckily we have a big garden so we’ve been doing different wort out routines each day . Teaching them how to garden has been a pleasure .

Kweenxo · 23/04/2020 16:45

I've been doing a few things to keep them from getting bored including:

Family exercise time
App games
Board games like monopoly
Family quizzes

Kids have enjoyed it

pushchairprincess · 24/04/2020 11:50

Building dens over my washing line with a sheet, baking cornflake buns, we have also found a way of going round our favourite museums by taking some of the 3D tours on their tablets (they loved the 3D tour of the Louvre).
And as we are lucky enough to have a turfed garden and sunny weather - we have built up our 13 foot netted trampoline which has proved a godsend in this lockdown.

Thank you and stay safe, and thank you key workers.

Kellyanne87 · 30/04/2020 15:52

We've had lots of playing in the garden, with the sandpit, paddling pool and stones?!!
We are walking with the dog on our daily walks. Lots of indoor play including playing with dolls, drawing, trampolining, finger painting, building blocks, learning new words, maybe a bit too much cbeebies at times 🙈 but overall having fun and making the most of our time.

Sucksfake1 · 01/05/2020 06:59

Luckily we have a big bag garden so the kids chucked out and I get to Mumsnet and have cuppa in peace.

tonglong · 01/05/2020 10:23

I don't entertain my children as I am not putting on a show.

I educate them, help them interact with the world around and make them feel happy doing so.

WarmCinnamonZoflora · 01/05/2020 11:40

Spikeball if the weather is good enough. Otherwise it is wall to wall YouTube here.

Malmontar · 01/05/2020 14:19

DD 12 bought 20kg of plasticine and has been making stop motion films about science. Other than that it's been; comics, annoying the cats and bike.

cholmes1507 · 01/05/2020 15:42

Lots of exploring on our walks, spending time down the allotment (socially distancing). Pintrest is my best friend for finding lots of art and craft activities and baking recipes!!

Backhometothenorth · 01/05/2020 20:44

Garden, baking, long walks and bike rides/ scoots, school work, craft, painting, tv, iPad, playing, chores, bath time, stories

GreenIvy · 01/05/2020 20:56

Going for a short walk over to the fishing pond opposite my house and letting DS dangle a rope off of the wooden bridges at regular intervals on the walk round to pretend he is fishing.

Sierra259 · 02/05/2020 00:37

We're going for variety - board games, Lego builds, arts & crafts, garden play/exercise, video games, and independent play. They love Pokemon, so bought my eldest a notebook to make her own Pokedex, copying drawings/Pokemon info, and designing her own. My youngest loves helping me in the garden.

RoryGilmoree · 02/05/2020 03:55

As much time outdoors as possible! Arts and crafts if I can deal with the mess (which is usually for about an hour a day!), otherwise dancing around the kitchen to Spotify, FaceTiming relatives and friends and lots of Disney+ to wind down in the evenings (we've absolutely loved the old classics like Cinderella, Peter Pan)

IWouldBeSuperb · 02/05/2020 08:46

Arts, crafts, cooking, reading, playing on the garden and SO MANY stickers Shock
