Many of us have a million-and-one things to do in the run up to Christmas, many of which aren’t particularly huge tasks but just time consuming such as wrapping the presents, writing cards, ordering the food and getting the decorations out from wherever they are stored for the majority of the year. Therefore in order to get get these things done and done quickly you often need to have a multitude of entertainment options up your sleeve and ready to whip out at any moment in order to keep your children preoccupied. Sky Kids would like to know how you keep your children entertained whilst you prepare for Christmas and if there are any Christmas events and/or times that would really help if your children were kept occupied.

Here’s what Sky Kids have to say: “The Sky Kids App is the perfect solution to keep your kids occupied in the run up to Christmas…..with thousands of shows on demand including Paw Patrol, The Gruffalo’s Child, Lego Ninjago and Rusty Rivets, and fun and educational games for all ages like Art Studio, you can buy yourself some ‘free’ time (to wrap all those presents!) safe in the knowledge that the available shows and games they're watching are age-appropriate and of course, entertaining.”

Do you pop on a Christmas film to not only get them in the Christmassy mood but also keep them entertained whilst you label and wrap all of the presents? Maybe the tasks such as putting up the tree and decorations you get them involved and assign them little jobs to do so you can kill two birds with one stone? What about the time you need to plan out all of the food and drinks that need to be ordered? Do you watch their favourite show with them whilst also planning on your computer? Do you wish you had more entertainment options for when your travelling all over the place doing the Christmas rounds?

However you keep the children entertained whilst you prepare for Christmas, share them on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw

Get them helping.

gd2011 · 18/12/2018 12:35

Plonk them in front of the TV

ThemisA · 18/12/2018 12:55

Lots and lots of Christmas themed crafts, cooking and films/books. I get them to prepare/design a Christmas quiz and a Christmas board game. I make use of family and friends to help keep them amused.

With a 2 year old who refuses to do anything independently (including sleep) my only option is to enlist the help of my mum.
Thanks Mum! Couldn’t do it without her.

janeyf1 · 18/12/2018 13:05

Depending on my dc's mood she will either play her tablet or watch and chat and try to help

Mitcholiver · 18/12/2018 13:24

I am all prepared with a number of craft activities they can do. Marbling paints, colouring activities, tile painting. I know the place will be a mess but nothing unusual there with 3 kids!!

Liquorice13 · 18/12/2018 13:35

I let my daughter make Christmas biscuits or watch movies

SSCRASE123 · 18/12/2018 13:49

We get them involved and let them know they are really helping with the preparations. This just adds to their excitement.

mo3733 · 18/12/2018 14:05

rachelmccraith · 18/12/2018 14:12

I get lots of cheap craft kits, colouring books etc to keep them amused

footdust · 18/12/2018 14:17

Let them join in helping wrap presents, prepare food , write cards etc. Christmas movie nights and grandparents are useful too!

lizd31 · 18/12/2018 14:21

Olivia loves to get creative so we set her to work on Christmas decorations for the tree

sophiefx · 18/12/2018 14:30

I tend to entertain my little girl by using Christmas movies.

CMOTDibbler · 18/12/2018 14:31

We don't have a massive amount of preparation to do, so Ds can wrap his own presents (to us), and help with the cooking

becky004 · 18/12/2018 14:56

I get them to help with wrapping gifts (not ones from santa, just family gifts). And lots of Christmas music or movies so we are all in the holiday spirit.

sm2012 · 18/12/2018 15:56

I've got some Christmas crafts for my children to do when they break up from school and I need some 'help' warpping presents. To get them out the house we go on a walk to deliver cards :)

MissusDave · 18/12/2018 16:07

We record the CBeebies pantomimes onto our Sky Box and she watches them with Daddy while I whizz about doing things!

SilverDoe · 18/12/2018 17:17

I try to involve them as much as possible! Christmas shopping with kids can be a nightmare but baby and toddler came with me for the big food shop yesterday, and it was really fun.

Absolutely yes to Christmas films of the tv to distract whilst decorating, and Christmas games on her tab for the 3 year old.

I givethe 1 year old a piece of tinsel trawl round with and it keeps him occupied for hours Xmas Wink

katieskatie82 · 18/12/2018 17:24

my lil boy loves watching all the christmas movies on Netflix

towser44 · 18/12/2018 18:06

Our DD loves helping out, so we just get her involved. Except when buying and wrapping her presents of course which Santa does ;-)

sueyredcloud · 18/12/2018 18:37

FORTNITE KEEPS HIM ENTERTAINED FOR AGES

LeeR1985 · 18/12/2018 18:48

I'm so lucky that my daughter entertains herself. She has a younger brother at her mums so she gets all her social interaction there looking after and playing with him. By the time she gets to mine she's happy for the peace and quiet so she quietly plays with her lego or watches netflix :)

disdream84 · 18/12/2018 19:14

They're pretty good at entertaining themselves with toys, drawing, tv etc.
