This activity is now closed

No matter your child’s age, if you have tips for encouraging them to help around the house, how to overcome fear of the doctor or dentist or knowing the little things to remember every time you step out with the family, Disney Junior UK wants to hear them.

Here’s what Disney Junior UK has to say: “A child is the greatest gift you can have but we know being a parent can be stressful at times. Our shows like Vampirina and PJ Masks, aim to spark little conversations around everyday problems that can sometimes be difficult for parents and children, and provide fun solutions for them. Disney Junior UK has now launched a new Parenting Hacks podcast with Helen Skelton to bring together parents, experts and special guests to explore tips, tricks and ways to provide more support to busy parents.”

Have you found the best ways to turn household chores into games? What’s your best trick to stop a supermarket tantrum? Do you have a life-changing laundry hack that has been passed down through generations? Perhaps you have tips that will help other busy parents at meal times? Or what about the little tricks that you’ve learnt to encourage your child to use their imagination?

Whatever your best parenting hacks are, share them on the thread below. Everyone who comments will be entered into a prize draw, and one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

i've always gotten my kids to eat their vegetables by making the food on their plate into a shape of a face eg. peas for hair.
The kids always love that!

Rather than shouting, when your children are shouting or aren't listening, lower your voice--it's amazing how well children will listen to a quiet or even whispered request from a parent!

The children earn their reward time (and by reward time I mean ipads and PS4 time)
So when their room is a mess, I go in and magically the ipad will disappear, or the playstation lead will disappear.
Then we hunt to find it :) and by hunt, I mean tidy!

I've found that reverse psychology often works. If Daisy and Leo say they don't want to do something that I ask them to do I just say 'Oh I'm pleased you said that, now I can enjoy doing it'.
Then I swan off as though I'm going to do whatever it was and start humming happily to myself.
It's unbelievable how many times they come running after me to see what I'm enjoying so much. Mind you, they are only 8 & 2 - this might not work so well when they are teenagers!

Have a house mentality that everyone has to help the household with age appropriate tasks.

Take snacks and crayons everywhere you go!

Teach them that they can't always get what they want or else you'll have a mutiny on your hands!

Make their sandwiches the night before

Make sure you take breaks where you can, and if you have more than one child make sure you have one on one time with each, doesn't have to be big, it can be as simple as popping to the shops, or going to the post office. We made the mistake of thinking all 5 of us should be together all the time, that's not sustainable or healthy.

Woodruffshaz · 19/12/2018 08:36

we have always taught our three the value of money... they EARN their pocket money.. and they do appreciate it more.. i do think it teaches them that if they work hard, they get rewarded for it.
