With modern day technology making up a fairly large part of most families lives nowadays, it can be difficult to find ways to spend quality time together in the great outdoors. HONEST® Kids would love you to share your top tips for getting your family to put the technology down and get out and about.

Here’s what HONEST® Kids have to say: “We all love the great outdoors but sometimes it can feel a little daunting thinking of ways to make the most of what is on the doorstep whilst being suitable for the whole family to enjoy together. Our great-tasting, organic drinks combine organic fruit juices, water and natural flavourings to provide simple drinks that your kids will love and in the same way we want to encourage simple, organic family time together.

Giving mums and dads peace of mind, the HONEST® Kids range contains no added sugar, is low-calorie and sweetened only with fruit juice. Keeping children’s playtime refreshing and fun, it is available from selected Tesco stores nationwide."

Do you schedule a walk with the family once a week to ensure you all get that bonding time outside? What about planning different games to play outside, in order to engage the young ones more? Perhaps you make the most of your garden by getting your DC’s playing outside, doing a bit of gardening or even just relaxing with a good book in the fresh air?

Whatever your tips are, share them on the thread below in order to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Mine like a scavenger hunt and also love a bit of freedom on their bikes. They use the trampoline too every day - and use a WhatsApp group to organise games of football down the park together with their friends. We love random obstacle courses in the garden too. Even the dog has to join in?

We have national trust membership (family ticket) and it gets us out and about every weekend most weeks. We take our Collie and spend the time looking at the wildlife and different flowers around us. It's been a great investment for our girls and us. We've used them all year round.

GooodMythicalMorning · 29/03/2018 09:53

I love the outdoors but particularly summer. The kids will join me on dog walks which gets them outside but they love to trampoline when its dry and generally play and mess about in the garden anyway. We love to do picnics in the garden and pretend we're at the beach.

geocaching is great for this - means the kids always feel there's a "purpose" to the walk and they love exploring. We've recently discovered treasure trails too and both times we've done one, we've explored somewhere new with the kids on their feet for 3-4 hours and no whinging whatsoever! Fantastic!

Our excuse is to walk the dog. Even a short walk helps us all feel better mentally and physically.

PickAChew · 30/03/2018 16:32

We take the technology with us and play Pokémon go!

Rainbowsaretoo · 31/03/2018 11:28

Take what they like and go with it. If they love going on their scooters, then we all go out on one!

RhubarbAndCustards · 31/03/2018 19:04

We have a dog so quite outdoorsy. We spend a happy hour walking in the fields nearby. It helps to be dressed for the weather and the environment so wellies and waterproofs a must then they can splash in the river and puddles.

If we are off on a long walk then something to keep them occupied so we enjoy things like the gruffalo hunts that you find in forests nearby. Or trying to spot different animals and birds also keeps them occupied.

We take Dd(7) out for a bike ride and play in the park every Sunday morning. It's a new routine because I got sick of everyone staring at their screens all day. It's good for all of us to get out together as a family.

Moocherbot · 31/03/2018 21:59

Bikes, sleds, garden buckets and spades, paddling pool...laser guns for live action FPS in the woods - goodness knows what the dogwalkers make of it but it really gets the kids outside and running about!

My children love to play on the equipment after school every day in their school playground. They are allowed to stay there for about an hour which I think is great.
Normally we go and visit a park at the weekend, we like to find different parks in towns and villages close by to our home and when the weather gets warmer again we will go letterboxing on Dartmoor, we introduced the children to it last year and they had great fun looking in nooks and crannys to find the boxes with paper and stamps inside đŸ˜€

Day camping in the garden to get ready for when it gets warm - looks really cosy in a sleeping bag in my small tent whilst I'm gardening!

Just discovered rock painting, both looking for them and painting them to hide.
Virtual runner where you can get medals for walking/running certain distances.
Farm parks, especially at the moment as they have lambs to feed.
And not forgetting the park with a walk after to the pond to feed the ducks.

Boooom · 01/04/2018 19:35

We always call it an adventure for the kids rather than the dread walk. We also do a bit of a nature treasure hunt which they love.

Tattybogle89 · 01/04/2018 22:03

Pretending to be explorers in the local country park. Climbing trees and collecting different leaves to do rubbings and drawings with at home. Seeing who can spot faces in the old trees and pretending to runaway from man eating cows in the fieldđŸ˜‚ I like letting my son pretend he has discovered a new species of insect each time, when he finds them under rocks. He gives them names and thinks he’s famous đŸ˜‚

Were quite lucky as my daughter has always loved the outdoors.
We have a dog so I always get her to walk him with me each day for at-least an hour and a half. When its warmer she loves to go bug hunting and making minibeast hotels for them in the garden. This year we're going to tidy up our garden and she's going to be helping us with all the digging and planting. Every step of he way :)

Runningshorts · 02/04/2018 13:19

We've got a postage stamp size garden but the kids do like to run around it in circles after school while I'm in the kitchen.
Other than that we get on the bikes and go out.

GhostsToMonsoon · 02/04/2018 16:32

We try and get out for a walk, bike ride or to visit a National Trust place or similar at the weekends. My son always complains of being cold, so I try to remind him to put his thermal clothes on. Unfortunately he doesn't much like playgrounds, only expensive things like Go Ape!

PorridgeAgainAbney · 02/04/2018 19:47

Kids TV is only on in the morning at the weekends for an hour before breakfast, and then 1 programme in the evening is earned by behaving well during the day. Luckily DS is only 5 so tech isn't really a big thing yet, and luckier still is that he would be outside every waking minute if it was his choice and we live close to both countryside and beaches so there are plenty of options for free days out in the fresh air.
I would like us to find a specific hobby to start though so I'll be looking for tips on here.

PussCatTheGoldfish · 02/04/2018 23:57

Best way to get mine enjoying the out doors is a nature treasure hunt. There's a list of things they must collect on the walk (feather, oak leaf, twig, nutshell etc, extra points for spotting wildlife). It gets the DC really interested in their surroundings and engaged with nature.

We try and include the children in picking where they would like to go for a family walk on a Sunday. Normally they like to go somewhere with a beach and we also have a National Trust annual past this year so have been getting them to have a look through the different sites and properties to pick where they would like to go.
The recent rock decorating craze has meant that they are really enjoying hiding and finding painted rocks at local spots too.
