The couple of weeks (or so) holiday from school at Christmas time can be a long slog once the ‘big day’ is out of the way, especially if the weather is not very kind.

NOW TV would love to know your top tips on keeping the children entertained during the winter school break - do you brave the sales, snuggle up for a movie afternoon, encourage long wintery walks or dig deep and go to soft play? How about some baking or crafts? What about older children? Do you limit device time or allow them some extra time with their tablets? When do you get any holiday homework done? What do your children like doing in the Christmas holidays?

NOW TV say “'With NOW TV, we have a host of family movies lined up for the festive period - from Frozen to The Polar Express and even the classic Sound of Music! Families can also enjoy newer movies like Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them and The Lego Batman Movie - all from the comfort of their own front room'

Whatever your tip or best advice for other parents, add it below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one person will win a £300 voucher for the store of choice - from a list.

Thanks and good luck

Lots of fun movies and games. They'll be playing with their Christmas presents and if carefully selected, they shouldn't get bored too easily. We also take them out the the park and outings like Winterwonderland in Central London.

I like to take the time over xmas when people aren't working quite as much to visit lots of relatives/friends we don't see very often, they are always delighted to see/treat/play with the kids that it breaks the day up at home and gets us all out socializing.

When we are at home its xmas films and tv and board games!

DontCallMeJohnBoy · 05/12/2017 13:50

We do a range of costed and free activities so it doesn't cost too much. We always go to a pantomime / play between Christmas and New Year in that lull, so there's something to look forward to. Last Christmas, I got a free adult's Xmas colouring book with a magazine and Ds loved it and sat for ages colouring it in. i've got him one from the Works to pick at this year. We also often have a puzzle on the go which DS will help with in bits.

We're also National Trust members so although the houses aren't open outside of Xmas events, the parks / playgrounds are and we often go to them to burn off some steam or to local woods. Hot chocolate and whipped cream on return may play a part when we get home.

Baking and crafts mainly, with park trips or walks in the woods if the weather's dry. For Christmas week we do allow a lot more TV than usual, mainly so DH and I can have a few more restful days too!

Well mine is only 4 months old, so basically pass him round the relatives and play with shiny things.

Ranita · 05/12/2017 18:27

Baking, watching movies, wrap up warm and go for a walk

jen1984j · 05/12/2017 18:42

we love crafting and visiting friends

Theimpossiblegirl · 05/12/2017 19:43

This is why we got a dog! We have to go for walks every day, in any weather. It's a great way to keep active over the Christmas break and to walk off the excess calories.
We also like to chill at home, watching movies, playing board games, having people round, all very relaxed after a long and tiring term.

Visit relatives
Bake
Craft
Go for walks
Soft play
Head to the mountains for snow and sledging
Cinema
Pack them off to relatives for a sleepover!

Try to limit screen time to a couple of hours in the mornings so we can get a long lie!

We love board games as a family and we have lots of them to keep us occupied. We always get a new one for Christmas. Movies snuggled up on the sofa are great too!!

Lots of preparation for Christmas, including getting them to help decorating the tree/house, baking etc. Christmas movies and snacks on an evenign to get in the mood.

After Christmas day, they generally entertain themselves with all their new stuff!

badgermum · 06/12/2017 12:11

We try and get out and about for an hour or two when we can, we live by the coast so a walk along the beach is a great way to spend an hour, we also love to have a family~film~fest with blankets, snacks and drinks and Christmas is of course the best time for family Christmas Movies

MargoLovebutter · 06/12/2017 14:17

I work and mine are teenagers, so I leave them a long list of jobs to do while I'm at work! I love the holidays - I don't have to unstack the dishwasher once. Xmas Grin

AmysTiara · 06/12/2017 19:58

We go to the beach or park and get fresh air and exercise after stuffing our faces over Christmas.

I usually take them to a skate park or trampolining as well as this always wears them out.

But we do chill a lot especially after new year. The boys play with Lego and go on the X box and we play board games that were Xmas presents.

nobodyreallyknowsme · 06/12/2017 22:22

I have a Pinterest board full of ideas for my 3 DS so that we have heaps of things we could do... other than that snuggly films with the fire on and nice foodSmile

happysouls · 07/12/2017 09:14

I always had a box full of stuff for making things. We could spread out the Christmas decorating for days with pulling all the boxes out, sorting out decorations, making new ones and then putting them up! No end to decoration making! Then there is the mince pie making afternoon and the Christmas cartoon and film snuggling!
