There’s no doubt that having children can be a pretty messy experience, from having a newborn baby throw up all over you, to having a teenager who hasn’t quite discovered the concept of a laundry bin. With that being said, Dettol would like you to tell us some of the most disgusting things you’ve caught your DC doing.

Here’s what Dettol have to say: “We all know children can do some pretty disgusting things. Maybe it’s not surprising then that kids are one of the main carriers of cold and flu viruses, with 41 percent of cold and flu outbreaks last year reported from schools. With cold and flu season rapidly approaching, it’s important to keep your family safe - both at home and on the go. Dettol Surface Cleanser range provides trusted protection against winter bugs by preventing the spread of germs and bacteria around the home.”

Have you ever caught them using something they really shouldn’t as a toilet? Perhaps you’ve witnessed your DC drinking from the dog bowl. Maybe you saw them lick a piece of cutlery and put it back in the draw without washing it? Or even watched in horror as they licked the hand rail on public transport?

No matter how nauseating the things you’ve found your child doing, share it on the thread below and everyone who comments will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

The most disgusting thing my 23 month old has done probably has to be being in the bathroom with me and spotting the toilet cleaner thing that attaches to the toilet on the inside of the toilet and finding it fascinating and touching it! Don't worry her hands got thoroughly washed, lol, just amazing what little ones can be intrigued by.

Dixiestampsagain · 25/11/2017 06:25

Am hoping this is not uncommon, but my DS does tend to pick his nose and eat it. Maybe not quite as bad as some pp but I find it disgusting!

RiSo · 25/11/2017 08:10

Oldest used to poo in the bath every time, thankfully he has grown out of that one. Now he just picks his nose and eats it. Middle son will often drop his trousers and wee against a tree, even though we are 2 minutes away from home. Youngest likes licking the windows of the classrooms while waiting for his brothers to come out of school. Boys are generally vile!

Gammeldragz · 25/11/2017 09:17

Found 18 month old DD eating a slug... Her brothers still tease her about that!

Teddygirlonce · 25/11/2017 09:49

Hmmm, DN once ate soil from the garden.

milleniumhandandprawn · 25/11/2017 11:14

Toddler DS used to pick up fag butts on the park and chew them like chewing gum. The first clue was usually the nicotine brown dribble running down his face 🤢

Marg2k8 · 25/11/2017 13:05

I remember having to pick poo up from the supermarket floor whilst potty training.

Toooldtobearsed · 25/11/2017 13:06

My two year old grand daughter managed to ram a whole milky way into her mouth. She chewed for a while, then decided to share with my two labradors - cue toddler running to each dog sticking her tongue out and allowing them to lick it clean. Boak.
She commands the dogs to drink out of their water bowls 'ere, ere' rings out quite regularly. How sweet. Until we caught her filling her teacup (from toy teaset) and enjoying a nice cup of tea with her mates!
She has combed her hair with a toilet brush as well as the dogs brushes. She was about to clean her teeth with a dog toothbrush - caught her in the nick of time.

Not sure if she is a dirty little bugger, or I am a very neglectful gran 😊 meh, builds up their immune system!

Mammatron · 25/11/2017 13:09

Toddler was playing happily in the bath, I went to the airing cupboard to get a towel out. Came back in to see him squeezing something in each hand- yes, yes it was two lumps of poo Envy

Jojopugh · 25/11/2017 13:38

I must say this is really bad. My youngest was dipping her dummy in the toilet and sucking the water off 🙈 I was mortified! Luckily there were no swimmers in there! Although the germs aloan.... 😷

Jojopugh · 25/11/2017 13:40

She was two at the time and thought it was hilarious!

Namechange16 · 25/11/2017 13:50

My dd ate gum from under a random table when she was 2 😑😑

jacqui5366 · 25/11/2017 14:01

My son was very proud to have told me that he cleaned the toilet with his dads toothbrush (he told us 3 days after he had done it and the toothbrush had been used. My hubby to this day hides his toothbrush at the top of the towel cupboard.

onemorecakeplease · 25/11/2017 14:58

Dd used to lick the handles of shopping trolleys which I thought was fairly gross until I read that they have something like ten times more germs than a toilet!!!
I started to carry hand sanitisier then....

Mum2mischiefs · 25/11/2017 15:55

Watching my nine year old putting his mouth up against the perspex of our local bus shelter made me feel physically sick. I'm not sure at which point in the past nine years the advantages of not doing this should have cropped up! Judder

ha2el · 25/11/2017 16:43

Putting an insect in his mouth.

WappersReturns · 25/11/2017 19:16

DD2 managed to drink half a large puddle through a McDonalds straw she had peeled off the pavement before I looked up from my conversation with a nice elderly lady and realised why she was so quiet.
DD2 also called me out into the garden one summer to see the "hedgehog" she had made. She had collected all of my dolly pegs and placed them artfully into a huge german shepherd turd to resemble spines.
DD3 ate her own poo no less than twice. I was alerted by the sound of gagging through the baby monitor and ran frantically upstairs thinking she was choking only to find her with the evidence around her mouth.
DS2 wee'd in his bottom drawer for months and shat on his book shelf because the bathroom was occupied.

I'm too scared to list any more because even I hadn't realised how gross my children were until I started collating the stories Grin

svalentine60 · 25/11/2017 19:16

I caught my 2 year old trying to poo in the cats litter tray. The cat was looking on in disgust lol

WappersReturns · 25/11/2017 19:36

DH has just reminded me of this one and I can't leave it out... DD3 poo'd on the carpet. Fairly standard toddler fare, but she decided her toy monkey would look ace with a new do! Poor monkey was never the same again!

I cannot recall anything disgusting, but we have had various pet farms brought in the house such as worms , beetles etc. Creepy, our budgerigar wanted to eat them and really freaked the dog out!

roseyposey123 · 25/11/2017 20:28

pooing in christmas wrapping paper for granny yikes what a stinky surprise

FuzzyPenguin · 25/11/2017 20:37

Putting his finger in the cat’s bum hole. Thankfully he didn’t get far for the cat. Never thought I would say the phase “get your finger out the cats butt”

LunchBoxPolice · 25/11/2017 20:50

Tonight in the bath 3 year old ds stuck his finger up his bum and then licked it.

MESSING2 · 25/11/2017 21:47

As a toddler, DS enjoyed nothing more than picking used tissues out of the bin and sucking them.

MESSING2 · 25/11/2017 21:52

Forgot to add, DD chews her toenails. I don't know whether to be appalled or impressed by her flexibility.
