There’s no doubt that having children can be a pretty messy experience, from having a newborn baby throw up all over you, to having a teenager who hasn’t quite discovered the concept of a laundry bin. With that being said, Dettol would like you to tell us some of the most disgusting things you’ve caught your DC doing.

Here’s what Dettol have to say: “We all know children can do some pretty disgusting things. Maybe it’s not surprising then that kids are one of the main carriers of cold and flu viruses, with 41 percent of cold and flu outbreaks last year reported from schools. With cold and flu season rapidly approaching, it’s important to keep your family safe - both at home and on the go. Dettol Surface Cleanser range provides trusted protection against winter bugs by preventing the spread of germs and bacteria around the home.”

Have you ever caught them using something they really shouldn’t as a toilet? Perhaps you’ve witnessed your DC drinking from the dog bowl. Maybe you saw them lick a piece of cutlery and put it back in the draw without washing it? Or even watched in horror as they licked the hand rail on public transport?

No matter how nauseating the things you’ve found your child doing, share it on the thread below and everyone who comments will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Playing with the toilet brush!

GetKnitted · 30/11/2017 21:41

I caught ds2 holding the loo brush like a lollipop. That was 4 years ago and he's fine. Grin

GetKnitted · 30/11/2017 21:42

Ha! So I'm not the only one

angiehoggett · 30/11/2017 21:52

putting evrything in her mouth doesn't work well with animals, lets just leave it at that!

ShovingLeopard · 30/11/2017 22:31

My toddler licked the floor in a hospital

fayesmummy · 30/11/2017 22:51

My daughter stuck a cheerio up her nose....sneezed it out and ate it before I had a chance to say noooo

clarabella12 · 01/12/2017 00:21

my 6 year old smears his poo but tries to hide it so you can find it dried in in the most random of places even which trying to watch him like a hawk.

Walking across a field he came across a cow pat. As it was solid he didn't know what it was so put his hand down to pick it up. Solid on the outside, soft on the inside though so his hand went right through and got covered in cow poo.

I knew my DS (who was 6 at the time) didn't like my male friend from work, this man was the first kind of date I had had in years, but I should have known he and I wouldn't work as he had no children himself, and really didn't know how to relate to them, and twice he had told my little boy off for things that really didn't concern him, so warning bells were already going off big time! Anyway, still I invited him round to tea one night to be friendly, and I had made us all a butterscotch pudding (complete in the little 70's glass bowls and everything with broken up Flake chocolate on top!) and I asked DS to take them into the front room.
I was just walking in in front of my male friend when I spotted my DS (out of the corner of my eye, dribbling into one of the puddings and then smoothing it over with his finger.
I was shocked, but unsure what to say, as I didn't want this guy, despite him being an arse, to think badly of my boy. So, I watched and saw DS give the dribbled out pud to my soon to be ex-friend!
Later I asked my son why he had done that, and he said "I don't like him, he's mean and didn't bring you flowers, he's got a scary face and his breath smells like dog poo.'
Sadly he had a point. lol. I pick my men more carefully now and DS never serves the pud!

my son has a habit of putting food in his drinks ...ie spoonful of stew in his squash, dipping chips into milkshake etc ...makes me want to throw up just thinking about it

Lydia30 · 01/12/2017 01:32

Mine have done some horrible things but nothing compared to a friends son who pulled some chewing gum off the frame of a swing in the park and ate it. Mum only found out when she asked what he had in is mouth

Dan35 · 01/12/2017 03:12

Pooing in the bath!

NoraButty · 01/12/2017 07:08

My son was three years old, we'd been out for a walk to the local shop and back. When we came back I caught him sat on the kitchen floor picking something off the sole of his shoe and eating it.

It seemed that at some point whilst out walking he'd stood on a chewy sweet, it'd got stuck between the grips on his shoe and when he saw the tempting looking pinkness of the sweet he must have thought waste not want not.

Toddler was waking up at 5, I was exhausted from a non sleeping baby..as baby had a habbit of falling back to sleep just as toddler was waking up, daddie looked after him for a few hours before he went to work so I could get some much needed sleep. Toddler played in the toddler proofed living room whilst daddy had dozed off on the sofa. Daddy was awoken by strange noise, toddler was sucking on something with all his might. Daddy removes item from toddlers mouth curious as we had tided small things out of the way. Turned out he was sucking a rogue slug :(

nospareusernames · 01/12/2017 09:35

Dd around 3 loved being in the garden, I'd often find snails etc in her pockets before washing her clothes, one day she strolled in carrying a frog from the garden. She's 8 now and has never changed - often look up to see her and the dog licking each other ( on the plus side she has a fantastic immune system and is never poorly )

BeeMyBaby · 01/12/2017 09:49

Dd2 used to try to eat the blue gel from the toilet, and dd1 used to try to desperately play with the cat litter, ugh.

Goldenphoenix · 01/12/2017 10:09

They regularly eat floor food if i don't catch them quickly enough. Ah well, am sure it strengthens their immune system!

Drinking from dog bowel!

Sloppychops · 01/12/2017 10:28

My youngest is 6. Lately he's been asking if he could wee in the garden instead of going upstairs to use the loo... I thought it was just a phase, so I've been letting him. Yesterday I looked out while he was having a pee only to find that the dog was stood next to him drinking it all!!

Dessallara · 01/12/2017 11:15

Dipping her toys in the toilet :/

Treaclespongeandcustard · 01/12/2017 12:10

Toddler 'helping' to clean with a baby wipe. Wipes the table, then floor, then bin, then own face in that order. I couldn't run fast enough to stop her. The she said 'all done, clean face'

SpecialAgentDaleCooper · 01/12/2017 12:52

DS, just before walking age, crawled into a room and picked up some regurgitated cat cat food and put it in on his mouth 😮 (it was so fresh that it was still warm )

toniuk · 01/12/2017 15:03

Wiping bogies on the wall behind the curtains in the lounge.
