Christmas is coming (FAST!) - and the team at Lidl would love to hear all about your family Christmas moments - perhaps from your own childhood or memories you are creating with and for your own children?

Are you a super-organised shopper, a festive fashionista in your Christmas jumper, or more of a last-minute panicker? Do you do ‘stir-up Sunday’ to create your perfect Christmas pudding or cake? Is there a tradition of choosing your tree that the whole family look forward to? What about when you were a child - are there older family traditions you recreate or look back on fondly which help get you in the community spirit?

Whatever your Christmas traditions are, Lidl would love to hear them!

Please post them on this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get £100 worth of Lidl vouchers (note the winner will be sent 4 x £25 vouchers, one voucher can be redeemed per transaction).

Thanks and good luck

On Christmas Eve the boys have a bath and whilst they are in it an Elf rings the doorbell and brings new PJ's/Onesies. They haven't managed to catch him yet..

My dh always have an event on the first Saturday of December. Whilst he's out at that, I decorate the tree.

He comes in, oohs and aaahs at it then we get sloshed on prosecco, basking in the glow of the beautiful beautiful tree.

We love our Christmas Eve family traditions! We do the reindeer food and then have a hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream. Finally the kids go to bed and find new PJs under the pillow from Santa Smile

Meanwhile DH (or the cat whichever gets there first) enjoys the brandy, mince pies and carrot off Santa's plate left by the fireplace Grin

We always watch the grinch on christmas eve with a glass of something naughty. We also have stockings that we hang up. We also wear our xmas outfits with pride.

Getting together to make mince pies on Christmas eve makes them very special.

Our family Christmas tradition is baking cinnamon buns and gingerbread on Christmas Eve

My dad had tradition of digging up the christmas tree every year to put back in house to decorate, this went on for several years till we sadly moved.. it was always so special having real tree in house, and decorating with our home made decoration.

RainyDayBear · 12/11/2017 07:22

My Mum used to give me a new ornament every Christmas for the tree! When I moved out she gave me them all.

We collect bits and bots all year round, from pine cones to match boxes and I pick up cheap craft items like glitter and paint. Sometime in November we put the Christmas music channel on, sit at the table and do arts and crafts with hot chocolate. It's the happiest I see my kids all year, they would sit for hours doing it and getting messy with glitter everywhere. It's my favourite part of Christmas, it doesn't cost much, just time and patience.

We have lots of traditions but my favourite is taking my son to choose a new decoration for the tree every year. I intend to give him all the decorations when he has his own christmas in his own home when he is older to remember our family times together

yokittymamma · 12/11/2017 11:42

For Christmas every year, my family each makes a quiz. Then we all buy a few little bits that we wrap up and have as "prizes". Then, throughout Christmas, we do each other's quizzes and the winner gets to choose a prize. Sometimes we do something different to a quiz, like trying to make the best playdoh dog. It's always really fun.

One of our favourite traditions is to watch a Christmas movie while eating a picnic next to the Christmas tree.

FizzySmiles · 12/11/2017 13:07

Reading a christmas book the night before and making biscuits and leaving some for santa. We also buy a family game to play on christmas eve so we have some quality family time.

Anything we do something special or a special event happens we buy a new tree decoration. Then when we put the tree up we reminisce about all of the wonderful times we have had. We then snuggle up together and watch the grinch and elf. On Christmas Eve we open our new pjs and always watch it's a wonderful life and mirical on 34th street. Xx

katieskatie82 · 12/11/2017 15:16

we have a christmas tradition that every christmas eve we eat mince pies and watch muppet christmas carol together as a family x

user1485629191 · 12/11/2017 17:23

On Christmas eve we always watch one of our dinosaurs is missing with a big box of chocolates! Children all wear their new Xmas eve PJs!

cherry49 · 12/11/2017 17:32

Having a relaxing Christmas Eve, eating a simple meal, watching films in the evening, before opening just one present before going to bed. Christmas Day is always hectic with the rest of the present opening and cooking, so it's great to have a quiet day beforehand.

avery64 · 12/11/2017 17:51

Ever since being a child putting up the tree has been such a special part of Christmas for me and it is the ornaments from then that were the first decorations to go on our tree when we first got married. When DD and DS came along new ones were added all of them memorable in some way or another. Now we are still adding new decorations but now it is for our grandchildren. As we decorate our very own 'family tree' each year so many memories from over the years are re-kindled for all the family. Makes me happy but quite emotional too for family members who are no longer here to celebrate Christmas with us Smile

MummyBtothree · 12/11/2017 17:51

Christmas eve in our house is lovely as it's much more relaxing than Christmas day itself. We have hot roast pork & stuffing cobs & enjoy some Christmas television together. The DC are bathed & put a carrot, mince pie & a tot of brandy out for santa before scattering reindeer food out on the front garden, then trying to settle them down for bed. I prepare the veggies for Christmas dinner the next day, then put my feet up with a glass or two of Baileys ❤

ellie17 · 12/11/2017 18:02

we always share drinks with our neighbours every christmas morning and this will be our 30th year of this tradition

Ymamiss · 12/11/2017 18:49

Our little boy is 2 and we are really looking forward to making new traditions as a family, including visiting local festive places on weekends, decorating the tree together, choosing books to read together in our advent book calendar and singing Welsh Christmas carols.
