Overspending on your mortgage? Tell Habito what you'd spend the money saved with a remortgage on - £300 to be won NOW CLOSED

Online mortgage broker Habito want to get folks thinking about remortgaging - did you know...that according to HSBC analysis, one in four British homeowners, (3 million people), are currently overspending on their mortgage by an average of £4,000 a year because they have stayed on their lender's standard variable rate (SVR). By remortgaging, homeowners on an SVR could save between £300-£400 a month (on average)*?

Habito say "we believe that no one should be left overpaying on an SVR. Thousands of homeowner's initial mortgage rates will mature in the next six weeks** which means they will automatically be moved on to an SVR. But, with interest rates still low, it is the best time ever to remortgage. We are a free online mortgage broker that promises to get you the best mortgage out there, then ensure you’re on the best deal, every day, for as long as you need it”.

With this in mind, they’d love to know what you’d do with an extra £300-£400 a month in your family? A massive family holiday? A new car? Treats for the kids? Or would you save it and put it towards a new home in the future?

Share your thoughts on this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one person will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice!

It would be split between a family holiday and savings - a compromise between heart & head would love to blow it all on a holiday but sensible head says no.

georgedawes · 28/09/2017 21:44

We'd be really boring and save it I think. Too concerned about the future for much else!

towser44 · 28/09/2017 21:46

An extra £300-£400 per month?! We'd be buying a motorhome for countless holidays and weekends away!

marrich · 28/09/2017 21:54

A special holiday for us all to remember.

spottypjs · 28/09/2017 21:59

I would save up for a new kitchen! Not that exciting but totally needed

gd2011 · 28/09/2017 22:03

Definitely a new car

Narnianescape · 28/09/2017 22:06

A camper van would be brilliant

xcxcsophiexcxc · 28/09/2017 22:07

Things are tight right now but I'd probably save it for security and then in a few years time put it towards taking my son to Disneyland !

emilybc · 28/09/2017 22:10

We'd go on holiday to somewhere warm!

cheekychicken24 · 28/09/2017 22:11

Holiday fund, for sure. It's so expensive once you add in spending money as well as the cost of the holiday itself!

kerryv · 28/09/2017 22:12

Definitely towards a holiday

Ganne1 · 28/09/2017 22:15

Holidays! I am so overworked at the moment, as we can't find someone to jobshare with me, that all we need are lots of short, cheap breaks!

becky004 · 28/09/2017 22:16

I would put it towards my mortgage as an over payment each month, so that I'd be mortgage free much earlier than the 14 years I currently have left.

OBface · 28/09/2017 22:16

It would a huge boost to our extension fund! So there.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 28/09/2017 22:18

Wow, that much extra money every month would likely go into overpaying the mortgage!!

I'd love to spend it on special trips out for DH and I though. Pay a dog sitter, go on a whole day out then a lovely dinner, fancy cocktails at the Speakeasy bar in Plymouth then home very late indeed!

Maiyakat · 28/09/2017 22:18

Being sensible - get a new roof
Not being sensible - go to Denmark and Legoland!

maryandbuzz1 · 28/09/2017 22:20

Ooooh I think it would have to go in the rainy day fund as at the moment we don't have any savings.

feeona123 · 28/09/2017 22:31

I'd put some towards paying off the mortgage but would also save the rest for a larger house.

almac1965 · 28/09/2017 22:32

Building up some savings and a decent holiday.

fld14 · 28/09/2017 22:38

So many things but would love a beautiful family holiday :)

glennamy · 28/09/2017 22:38

I would make it a very special Christmas for my family, mostly the kids as per usual! :)

gemmie797 · 28/09/2017 22:42

That's a massive chunk towards lots of house jobs which usually would go on the backburner

Spices001 · 28/09/2017 22:46

A new kitchen & plenty of holidays

ponygirlcurtis · 28/09/2017 22:51

New bathroom! And then saving for a big holiday.

Signoritawhocansway · 28/09/2017 22:54

I would overpay mortgage, or save for next move. We're in shared ownership and would like to move into full ownership
