Overspending on your mortgage? Tell Habito what you'd spend the money saved with a remortgage on - £300 to be won NOW CLOSED

Online mortgage broker Habito want to get folks thinking about remortgaging - did you know...that according to HSBC analysis, one in four British homeowners, (3 million people), are currently overspending on their mortgage by an average of £4,000 a year because they have stayed on their lender's standard variable rate (SVR). By remortgaging, homeowners on an SVR could save between £300-£400 a month (on average)*?

Habito say "we believe that no one should be left overpaying on an SVR. Thousands of homeowner's initial mortgage rates will mature in the next six weeks** which means they will automatically be moved on to an SVR. But, with interest rates still low, it is the best time ever to remortgage. We are a free online mortgage broker that promises to get you the best mortgage out there, then ensure you’re on the best deal, every day, for as long as you need it”.

With this in mind, they’d love to know what you’d do with an extra £300-£400 a month in your family? A massive family holiday? A new car? Treats for the kids? Or would you save it and put it towards a new home in the future?

Share your thoughts on this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one person will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice!

Over pay the mortgage and get debt free, then use it to travel and show my boys the world 🌎

Butterfly1975 · 06/10/2017 21:18

Can't imagine saving that much a month! Would be amazing. I'd spend it on home improvements and paying for DH to retrain in a different career area.

CookieDoughKid · 06/10/2017 21:31

I'd sponsor a child from a 3rd world country and also try to create a savings buffer.

hibbertheather · 06/10/2017 22:05

At this time of the year, it would definitely be going towards Christmas presents!

Riceandpeace · 07/10/2017 06:26

A holiday where we can do exactly what we like, eat out and not be watching the money all the time. Making the house warmer and the garden more child friendly.

pterobore · 07/10/2017 09:01

I would save it to travel. And be able to afford to give a regular payment to charity

Rigbyroo · 07/10/2017 12:07

Would love to have a holiday or just be able to buy the stuff we need without stressing too much. I would probably use it to clear the debt backlog quicker.

daniel1996 · 07/10/2017 12:46

I would put the savings towards a new house, I have a small 2 bed terrace, so the extra £3 - £400 per month would go into a savings account (probably and ISA then I would not be tempted to dip into it) I would then sell my home and remortgage with a large deposit for my dream semi, or small detached with some land and 3 bedrooms.

EasterRobin · 07/10/2017 13:06

I'd use it to overpay on the mortgage... And one day actually own my home!

flozza42 · 07/10/2017 16:56

We would use the money to pay for our garden to be landscaped

withiceandaslice · 07/10/2017 19:33

We would save it / invest it.

MrsRobert · 07/10/2017 19:49

I would definitley use it to reduce my working hours to the bare minimum.

SerenaVanDerWoodsen · 07/10/2017 20:07

New car. Or I'd overpay the new mortgage by the amount saved.

strawberrisc · 07/10/2017 20:12

I would keep £100 a month, start a funeral plan (morbid it may sound but it would be piece of mind to know this is something my family would never have to do) and save the rest - half in my savings and half my my child's.

flapjack35 · 07/10/2017 21:51

I would save it and put it towards my daughter's future

womblelancs · 07/10/2017 21:57

I'd just plough as much of it as possible into the mortgage and get it paid of as soon as possible.

HawkeyeInConfusion · 07/10/2017 23:07

I'd overpay to reduce the mortgage faster.

Boring I know. But once it was paid off I'd look to reduce my hours at work.

MsPassepartout · 08/10/2017 06:40

I don't think it'd be possible to save as much as £300-£400 on our monthly repayments, but any money saved from the mortgage would go into saving for a new car.

colleysmill · 08/10/2017 08:53

We need a new garage door - one of those things that never quite hits top of the list for spending money on but really now needs doing.

CopperKettle11 · 08/10/2017 12:05

First thing would be a new bathroom and then if we could afford it, a trip to Centre Parcs!

Wargghhhh · 08/10/2017 12:05

There's 2 things I would save for - money for my daughter's allergy treatment, (£16k!) and an amazing Florida holiday for the 4 of us - I'd split the money in half and save for both. Would be lovely to do that :-)

NineteenForever · 08/10/2017 14:57

It would go on home improvements, New bathroom and kitchen, and an incredible family holiday.

BGcat14 · 08/10/2017 16:36

I would split it and put some towards family holidays, and the rest to overpay on the mortgage!

Ninja12345 · 08/10/2017 19:23

Some to overpay mortgage and a course of Evening classes

chrissy53438 · 08/10/2017 20:30

holiday budget!
