Overspending on your mortgage? Tell Habito what you'd spend the money saved with a remortgage on - £300 to be won NOW CLOSED

Online mortgage broker Habito want to get folks thinking about remortgaging - did you know...that according to HSBC analysis, one in four British homeowners, (3 million people), are currently overspending on their mortgage by an average of £4,000 a year because they have stayed on their lender's standard variable rate (SVR). By remortgaging, homeowners on an SVR could save between £300-£400 a month (on average)*?

Habito say "we believe that no one should be left overpaying on an SVR. Thousands of homeowner's initial mortgage rates will mature in the next six weeks** which means they will automatically be moved on to an SVR. But, with interest rates still low, it is the best time ever to remortgage. We are a free online mortgage broker that promises to get you the best mortgage out there, then ensure you’re on the best deal, every day, for as long as you need it”.

With this in mind, they’d love to know what you’d do with an extra £300-£400 a month in your family? A massive family holiday? A new car? Treats for the kids? Or would you save it and put it towards a new home in the future?

Share your thoughts on this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one person will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice!

Flights for the family

pockledigg · 01/10/2017 04:36

I'd save it-having just split up after a 20 year relationship I can confirm that you NEVER know what's just around the corner.

ANNEKS · 01/10/2017 09:07

I'd put it towards a theatre trip for for my lovely family.

kateandme · 01/10/2017 10:07

save because nothing is easy nowadays and we need all the helpful money we can get.

WonderLime · 01/10/2017 10:35

I would overpay my mortgage with half, and save the other half to put towards holidays!

createbeauty · 01/10/2017 11:03

Oh wow, £300 - £400 a month extra would mean that we could go grocery shopping AND buy essentials for the kids and house without having to juggle finances as we usually have only just enough for the bills and groceries.

katastrophy13 · 01/10/2017 11:44

I'd love to be able to take the kids to some more exotic holiday destinations, I think it's so important to show them the world, but it costs so much.

badgermum · 01/10/2017 12:59

We woud save it for our dream family holiday, A grand American Adventure along Route 66, which is a tour in a motorhome, we'd love to do it before the chidren are too old to holiday with mum and Dad

charlasf · 01/10/2017 15:04

To be honest as much as I'd love to take the kids on holidays or days out, or even save for a house deposit, an extra £300-£400 per month would be the difference between having to borrow money and being able to support ourselves. I work full-time but we are still trying to catch up from past money issues and struggling. We are getting there though!

liz1970 · 01/10/2017 15:16

Overpay your mortgage if you can, if not, put the extra in an isa :)

Helsbells68 · 01/10/2017 16:29

All spare money is being ploughed into the mortgage to finally clear it, then we will be free to move house to where ever we want.

SleepingSoundly · 01/10/2017 18:20

It would go towards helping adult children with a house deposit.

dannydog1 · 01/10/2017 20:05

Spend it on getting the family together for a day out

queenoftheschoolrun · 01/10/2017 20:16

Overpayments on the mortgage and/or pension top ups. Boring and practical but helps me sleep at night!

mum25littleones · 01/10/2017 20:42

It's my first Christmas as a single mum so I would splash out on the kids and make it one to remember for all the right reasons.

hbakfam · 01/10/2017 20:46

I'd put it towards buying my own home

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 01/10/2017 20:55

I'd save it for a family holiday abroad which we don't have currently.

Shiraznowplease · 01/10/2017 21:53

I would put it towards someone to paint my hall, I have problems with my joints so I can't and I hate the lipstick drawing my dd made on the wall (when she was 2) when I turned my back for all of 30 seconds🙄 Nine vertical lines of varying length, made worst by my poor attempts at getting them off

cwalliss82 · 02/10/2017 06:20

I would save up to get a new car. Not brand new - just new to me. Mine is a bit old and a bit tatty.

hannahbjm · 02/10/2017 07:00

I would love to put it on a deposit for centre parcs. Reallyhoping to go there next christmas for a family break

thanksamillion · 02/10/2017 08:34

New bathroom, new kitchen and French doors out to the garden. Oh and then a new patio. We do need to sort out our mortgage but I never get round to it which I know is ridiculous Blush

mollymoo818 · 02/10/2017 08:47

I'd like to say that we would be sensible and put the money away in a savings account but in reality I seriously doubt that we would. It would probably just get swallowed up with the day to day living costs but hopefully it would also mean that we would have some extra money for a really good summer holiday.

BlueGirl1982 · 02/10/2017 09:33

We'd put it towards our wedding, and after that it would be saving towards maternity leave!

CandyMelts · 02/10/2017 10:18

A dishwasher. It'd make all my dreams come true!

CandyMelts · 02/10/2017 10:19

Ah I misread, if I had that monthly I'd save for a utility room then overpay the mortgage
