We have been asked by the team at Reading Eggs to find MNers to try their reading programme and to report back on this thread for MN.

Here’s what, Rebecca, Direct Marketing Manager at Reading Eggs has to say “Reading Eggs makes learning to read interesting and engaging for your DC using online reading games and activities. It works on desktop and tablets. Children love the games, songs, golden eggs and other rewards which, along with feeling proud of their reading, really motivate children to keep exploring and learning. It also keeps them engaged leaving you more time to Mumsnet Grin
My DC have used the programme and love it, so we wanted to know what Mumsnetters thought!"

Testers - please post on the thread below sharing your Reading Eggs review below – please let us know what your DC think of Reading Eggs (3-7), Reading Eggs Junior (2-4), Reading Eggpress (7-13) or Mathseeds (3-9). Do also feel free to share on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with #readingeggs

DD 10 and DS 6 are really enjoying it.

Tested by Dd aged 3.5 years. Reading eggs Junior 2-4 years. She reallt enjoyed 'the eggles' game and collecting stickers for her virtual sticker book. We played on a tablet and Phone. It was nice to be able to give her a little bit of screen time without feeling like a bad mum! I was impressed at the range of acitivities on offer. The sound matching game was good as well as the online books. The app was slightly buggy for us, and the videos section often didnt work. Over all I think its a fab resource it has definitely improved her letter recognition. I would consider subscribing in future but I'll probably try other free applications first.

My 6 years old daughter enjoyed the app but only after completing the test and and a lot of reassurance/encouragement from myself.

she cried a lot at one point while completing the test, as there was questions which were really tricky and knocked her confidence.

I know the test is a necessity but I wished it didn't affect my daughter or made her feel incompetent.

Rest of the app is great, we are thinking to subscribe :)

I loved the idea, but 9 year old ds, found the initial placement test, hard to understand, and I had to explain quite a lot. He also made a mistake by clicking the wrong answer and was annoyed he couldn't go back a step.

He also felt incompetent and lost interest, and preferred the free learning sites, recommended by his school that he was more familiar with and knew how to use.

I tried looking at this on my smartphone but it wasn't great - not easy to use / see - though I guess the small screen wouldn't have helped and I know the guidance suggests best not to use on such a device. I think an app would be a good idea though ...

When I looked at it on my laptop I was more impressed but DS (5) wasn't too keen! To be honest it wasn't easy finding time to look at it properly- he was either tired from school or distracted and didn't 'want to read' !! I am going to try again at a later date though as the idea sounds good.

We really liked the idea of this, the educational element to the games. My three year old is really getting into his reading and was happy to play. However, at the time of the trial we didn't have a tablet and playing some of the games on a laptop was very difficult. There was no initial indication that a tablet would be best to use. We have since bought tablet and its much easier to use Reading Eggs. Would definitely recommend.
