Returnships: seen the news? Where would you return to? What job would you love to do?

As you might have seen, early this morning Mumsnet exclusively broke the news that the government is announcing new funding for 'returnships' in today's budget statement. There will be a new £5 million fund to extend return-to-work schemes to all levels of management and into industries where women are under-represented.

At MN Jobs we've been highlighting returnships for some time - so we'd love to know what you think. Are they a good route back into work for mothers (and indeed fathers) who've taken extended career breaks? Have you done a returnship yourself, or do you know someone who has - and was it effective? If you were returning to work, or changing jobs, where you would want to work - what sorts of careers and industries would you like to see offer returnships?

(And if you are wondering what returnships are, think you might fancy trying one, or are just looking for a new job, have a look at Mumsnet Jobs for returnships and family friendly jobs.)

"5 million won't go far."
^^ this

Lip service, sadly. Also, why is the government allocating this specific amount before actually knowing what to do with it, how to invest it, I mean without an actual strategy? Oh wait!!!! Could it be because they are sadly incredibly incompetent? Look at the samples that is Brexit. Hmm

I think...though could be wrong...so based on our experience pretty awful for men. Dp trying to get back in after some years being sahp.......really impissible. Employers need to be more forward thinking and also look at transferable skills. Also age plays a major part.

Impossible obviously!

I am keenly disappointed that there are no companies sponsoring returnships where I live and most companies view women returning to the workplace as a risk to hire in case their children get sick. I am so tired and frustrated of trying to find a suitable role for myself that also allows me to be a parent.

I want to retrain completely and work in a hospice.

I don't want to work in a bank. Or work 6am to 9pm M-F

I don't live in London.

Unless employers are made to change their ways and accept that people have lives outside of work things will never change.
