Butlin's is redesigning one of its swimming pools and needs your help to make it as family-friendly as possible. In particular Butlin’s wants your help to understand what it’s like as a parent using a swimming pool changing room – and your input will genuinely help inform the new design and build on resort.

Why the changing room? Butlin’s have done research which shows that most parents love going swimming with their children – until they get to the changing room. From the wet floor, the often-freezing temperature, the small cubicles not suitable for a family to the fact you can never get your child dry – there’s a lot to be desired! Which is why Butlin’s wants the opinion of Mumsnetters to identify the biggest issues you face – and your ideas on how to solve them.

So two important questions:

What do you find particularly frustrating when using changing rooms at the swimming pool?

In an ideal world, can you think of anything which would make your life easier and solve these problems?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

I find it extremely frustrating how tiny the cubicles are, you cant move around in them at all usually. Also walking over the wet floor feels so unclean and yukky, its not a nice experience. I also dont like there is never enough dryers in them, you normally have to wait and queue and fight over some mirror space!
The showers when you get out of pools are always dismal too, with hardly any spray coming out of them!

Maybe have a wet side separate to the toilets and lockers so you dont have to walk over the horrible wet floor any more than you need to.
Bigger cubicles, stronger showers, more dryers, bigger mirror space would solve all the other problems! xxx

Where to begin, my wish list is so long!

Clean. A secure door not a curtain. Places to sit. Places to put things other than the floor. Warm.

Those would be great for starters.

mickaul232 · 12/10/2015 13:03

Have larger changing cubicles

janeyf1 · 12/10/2015 13:10

Large unisex cubicles for families

pipersky · 12/10/2015 13:19

Changing rooms for families (unisex) so the whole family can get changed together :)

glennamy · 12/10/2015 13:20

I would like a rack on the floor so you do not stand on water on the floor...

purpleluvbug · 12/10/2015 13:35

I feel swimming pools are never clean. Especially the changing rooms. So I think they need cleaning up. Also, I like the idea of electronic wrist bands. So u can use them for ur lockers, instead of silly keys.

sm2012 · 12/10/2015 13:38

Make them bigger! A local pool we go to has the tiniest changing rooms imaginable, you can barley fit one person in let alone a child as well.

happysouls · 12/10/2015 13:52

More space and many more hooks! There is no room to move in alot of cubicles and without enough hooks you always seem to end up dropping something on a very wet (often dirty) floor!

bridge16 · 12/10/2015 13:56

Oh definitely much bigger family friendly changing rooms with plenty of space and seats to put things off floor and for little ones to sit.

ann28 · 12/10/2015 14:03

Somewhere dry to put the children whilst I get ready!

MAT12 · 12/10/2015 14:07

More family cubicles, it so hard to change when there is you and more than one other in a small cubicle. Make it warmer as its so cold in the changing rooms and when there is more than one waiting to get change, the cold does get the better of you.

pixelwife · 12/10/2015 14:11

I generally just find swimming pool changing rooms too small. With 2 children, me and my hubby all in there, we are all elbowing each other. My youngest is a baby and the bench isn't ideal to get her changed on so a comfortable baby changing area within the changing room would be good.

beckyinman · 12/10/2015 14:20

Definitely larger cubicles for you and the kids. It's always such a squeeze

clarem100 · 12/10/2015 14:23

i hate the dirty, wet floors. I would like more heated flooring and places to put shoes so dirt isn't being trampled through them

annarack99 · 12/10/2015 14:29

underfloor heating would be great. plenty of hooks in the changing rooms, no need for coins in the lockers.

gholmes724 · 12/10/2015 15:11

Dry floors and complete privacy

jennie1984j · 12/10/2015 15:13

bigger cubicles with more hanging space and benches

Funkyferret · 12/10/2015 15:25

A good size with hanging hooks and a shelf on opposite walls (so dry and wet can be kept totally separate). Partitions that go down to the floor (to stop the kids mucking about and peering underneath and possible theft when you're distracted). Possibly a split level floor (only by a couple of inches) so you have a dry area to stand on. Easy but secure locks (a big snib is often better than the fancier ones). A drain area to wring wet costumes into.

feeona123 · 12/10/2015 15:28

Get them cleaned regularly and make more family changing cubicles

ImmortalBeloved72 · 12/10/2015 15:34

Rooms where you could take a different sex child in with you no matter what the age. Children with learning difficulties can't change on their own and need someone there for support. I've stopped going swimming because of the looks and comments I get and my son is 9.

rkoya2001 · 12/10/2015 16:04

Bigger cubicles and somewhere for the kids to sit so they can dry down.

kel1981 · 12/10/2015 16:07

have under floor heating to try and dry the water off quicker and keep you warm when you're getting changed!

farhanac · 12/10/2015 16:28

More frequent cleaning
