Butlin's is redesigning one of its swimming pools and needs your help to make it as family-friendly as possible. In particular Butlin’s wants your help to understand what it’s like as a parent using a swimming pool changing room – and your input will genuinely help inform the new design and build on resort.

Why the changing room? Butlin’s have done research which shows that most parents love going swimming with their children – until they get to the changing room. From the wet floor, the often-freezing temperature, the small cubicles not suitable for a family to the fact you can never get your child dry – there’s a lot to be desired! Which is why Butlin’s wants the opinion of Mumsnetters to identify the biggest issues you face – and your ideas on how to solve them.

So two important questions:

What do you find particularly frustrating when using changing rooms at the swimming pool?

In an ideal world, can you think of anything which would make your life easier and solve these problems?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Top priority for me is that changing rooms are clean.Lots of large lockers too please, and plenty of changing rooms in all sizes. Spin dryers for costumes!

andywedge · 12/10/2015 08:24

Have more family changing rooms

maryandbuzz1 · 12/10/2015 08:24

Flooring which doesn't remain puddled and wet.
Extra warm as getting out of the water and going into changing rooms is particularly nasty when it's cold and wet.

jt75 · 12/10/2015 08:24

Bigger cubicles and more hanging space.

finleypop · 12/10/2015 08:31

So simple that I don't know why it isn't routine, more hanging hooks. I am forever piling things up when it would be much better to hang them whilst I am getting changed

pockledigg · 12/10/2015 08:44

Slimey wet floors. No idea how to get rid of them though....I suppose carpet is a bit impractical?.............

shawbarbara · 12/10/2015 08:50

More space and seating in changing cubicles
Shelves to put stuff and hooks for towels etc
Decent sized lockers
Private shower cubicles
Heat on
thank-you

One thing I hate about changing rooms with children is the toilets situation & they are often disgusting and the children always need to go. I would love it if the pools had a separate toilet for children. Also better drainage so the floors are not soaking wet. Overall swimming is usually a pretty grim experience

cookinmummy · 12/10/2015 08:56

As a family of 5 we really need bigger changing rooms! And definitely shelves! hate having to put stuff on the floors which are always yucky :-/

cazzzie987 · 12/10/2015 08:59

Bigger lockers and bigger changing rooms.

Ganne1 · 12/10/2015 09:01

They should be cleaner ... people should not be allowed in wearing outdoor footwear

southernsun · 12/10/2015 09:01

Space to be able to turn around in a cubicle and somewhere to secure a little one while you get dressed. Often we struggle to get changed with a little one trying to open the door or they end up squished in the corner.

jeniferlack · 12/10/2015 09:05

I know this is probably just me but I hate the feel of my feet on the wet communal tiles so I would probably make flip flops in changing rooms mandatory! (I know this is completely impractical though!) :)

tubbyj · 12/10/2015 09:09

Like
Family sized cubicles
delineated sides dry and wet
Big lockers
spin dryers for costumes

walk1992 · 12/10/2015 09:11

Larger lockers would be great.

amandamcg123 · 12/10/2015 09:16

Bigger family changing cubicles. wider benches too sit items on to keep them off wet floor.

mclarkie · 12/10/2015 09:16

Big lockers, good non slip flooring.

tiddles12 · 12/10/2015 09:28

Need hairdryers and spinners for wet costumes. Large family changing cubicles with hooks for hanging up clothes. DRY changing areas!

cheryl100 · 12/10/2015 09:34

Heated floors, larger lockers which are easy to use when balancing clothing and children! Also, large private changing rooms with enough hooks

adamemsley · 12/10/2015 09:43

If we are talking about a perfect world I would say heated floors and family cubicles and free lockers. Nothing worse than arriving and realising you haven't got the right coin.

seeingdouble2 · 12/10/2015 09:45

a lot more showers with privacy and family changing rooms, only let my family see my wobbly bits!

createbeauty · 12/10/2015 09:47

I don't like the changing rooms because they are dark and dingy feeling. The floors are always way too slippery and the cubicles are a bit too small for say, a mother/father and two children to change in.
Sooo... brighten it up; keep the floors dry (I know, it's a swimming pool changing room, but it's still slippery!) and bigger changing cubicles for families.

Smythe13 · 12/10/2015 09:50

Bath mats for the cubicle floors, a couple of hanging hooks on the door and generally the area to be warm and clean

easter1965 · 12/10/2015 09:58

Not so slippy when you have young ones its a nightmare, more privacy, more comfortable surroundings and a few more little luxuries in there
