McDonald’s have asked us to find out what Mumsnetters’ perfect family sport event would look like.

Here’s what they say, “We love a good kick about, so this year we held over 40 Community Football Days across the UK which were attended by over 14,000 kids, parents and families. With coaching sessions, fun games, and celebrity ambassadors there was something for everyone."

"These events helped to promote grassroots football in local areas and, being open to everyone, the Community Football Days were the perfect opportunity for grassroots clubs to attract both new players and volunteers. But what would make your perfect family sports event?”

So, what kind of event would you organise if you were in charge of a family sport event in your local community? Perhaps you would want to host a school style sports day with everything from egg and spoon races to sack races to hulla hoop competitions? Something for the youngest in the family, face painting, bouncy castles, or introductory coaching sessions? Or maybe you’d design an extravagant obstacle course for everyone to complete? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks,
MNHQ

Not just typical sport but go karts, Lego building, as well as fully accessible for all disabilities.

Lovewhereilive · 28/09/2015 20:41

Love the it's a knockout idea. And definitely good coffee and snacks for sale!

CheeseAtFourpence · 28/09/2015 20:46

Something where there is an opportunity to try different sports and games. We did a mini-games at work with everything from archery and football to hula hooping and running.

Some mini-team games such as rounders or netball, with someone on hand to coach maybe.

Demonstrations of sports that you might not get the chance to try normally.

Lulabellx1 · 29/09/2015 14:28

Running. I am 32 and have just discovered it... I love it! People don't really think about going on short runs with their children, but kids can run just as much as the adults. My children both want to do the mini mile and the next Brighton Marathon and I think it's great. It would be good to have more family based running events to go to with them.

Kathderoet · 29/09/2015 18:02

A fun day with a choice of sports from football to trampolining, netball to badminton with safe space for cycling and skateboarding so everyone can have a go.

Princessxo · 29/09/2015 20:57

Mine would be Mum and son/Father and daughter type events. Maybe like a relay race, skipping, running, jumping jacks, football, basketball, anything really. Both teams against the other.

Maiyakat · 29/09/2015 21:52

Lots of different options to try, and things that different ages would be good at. Not long waits to try things. Plenty of clean toilets. Good reasonably priced refreshments. Contingency plan for bad weather.

CesareBorgiasUnicornMask · 29/09/2015 22:39

Yy to clean toilets. I also am quite pro doing sports events in fancy dress...

ottothedog · 30/09/2015 16:52

A great vintage coffee and cake pop up cafe in a quiet corner

Meanwhile, mayhem for the kids with a 'tough mudder' style obstacle course

Wjjkl · 30/09/2015 20:44

Something resembling the krypton factor! Not just physical challenges but also problem solving agility. Probably not a flight simulator though..!

BrandNewAndImproved · 30/09/2015 20:46

A cycling obstacle course.

BodieBroadus · 01/10/2015 09:41

Martial arts - karate in the local park on top of a hill with fantastic views. For all ages. My DC (and DH) would love it.

supermariossister · 01/10/2015 11:45

I think it would need to be abit of something for everyone, my dcs would enjoy a family funday with the oppurtunity to try out different things as they all have different strengths and personalities for example my ss would join in a team game of football no problems but my ds would feel uncomfortable and would prefer to do say an obstacle course that he can complete at his own pace.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 01/10/2015 21:53

I'd do a traditional 'school sports day' type event - classic races such as egg & spoon, sack race, and obstacle race, as well as things like tug o'war and welly wanging - something for all ages and abilities.
To make it even more traditional I'd have stalls such as a coconut shy and hook a duck, and of course the all important refreshments to keep everyone going!

PantryofWhoGivesAFuck · 01/10/2015 22:15

I would not serve food high in fat, sugar and salt.

BellaVida · 01/10/2015 22:40

I would set up different sports 'zones' which each focus on a different aspect or challenge in sport, for example a 'team sport' like rounders, an 'individual sport' like throwing or jumping, 'strength & conditioning' for example some circuit training, 'agility' could be an inflatable obstacle course, 'speed' could be a timed sprint etc The equipment could be adapted for any age.

Food is important but would need to be available throughout, so a barbecue would work well, not forgeting a vegetarian option. Hot and cold drinks for kids.

As weather can be unpredictable, shelters enclosed on 3 sides would be good, plus enough decent toilets to avoid queues.

Finally, kids always like a little souvenir, so maybe a stall with sports related stuff- key rings, pencils, water bottles etc. They could perhaps earn tokens as they do each activity to 'spend' at the stall. You could get sponsors to cover the cost of the items on the stall.

DrSausagedog · 03/10/2015 08:14

I like the sound of a range of obstacle courses, for all ages, with a variety of different types of obstacles.

Not set up as a race though, anything too competitive would put me off.

voyager50 · 03/10/2015 10:46

Games that can have families playing in teams and involve everyone like a relay race.

Activities that can involve older grandparents that don't involve much energy like frisbee throwing.

Games that are fun for the tiny ones ones like seeing how many times they can bounce on a trampoline in a minute.

The chance to try new things out in a non-competitive way - maybe having a card which children get stamped for each new activity they try and they get a small prize when they have 10.

regularbutpanickingabit · 03/10/2015 12:31

A version of It's A Knockout/Wipeout/Gladiators but mixed in with the mental testing of Crystal Maze and Krypton Factor so us old birds with dodgy knees and kids who aren't as sporty can all have a go.

I see it as a big extended family/friends team relay with at least 8 people in each team. You HAVE to have 2 x kids under 8, 2 x kids over 8, and a mix of adults/teens. Of course, there will be a wild card moment when everyone gets to switch from their usual type of event to someone else's just for a laugh.

There has to be a water slide or paddling pool event, definitely some dressing up in silly clothes that make it difficult to run, a giant jigsaw puzzle, code-breaking, rugby ball throwing, crawling under commando nets, apple dunking, silly dancing and tower building.

It does need to be competitive but lots of FUN!

spababe · 05/10/2015 13:31

I'd organise some sort of orienteering/geocaching event to make exercise into a fun treasure hunt
