As part of their #LidlSurprises campaign, Lidl would like to find out about your best lunchbox recipes or tips to make the humble packed lunch more of a surprise for your children.

So what recipes/ combinations do you use for your children's packed lunches that mean they always come back empty? What's your most successful lunchtime creation?
Do you ever add a little surprise for your child which makes them (or just you) smile?
Do you have a tried and tested sandwich or wrap filling?
How - if at all - do your children get involved with lunchbox creations? Does everyone make their own or do you juggle numerous boxes in a production line fashion?

Everyone who shares their lunchbox ideas, inspiration and recipes on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to where 5 MNers will each win £50 of Lidl vouchers.

Please note your comments may be included on Lidl's pages on MN, their social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

My son doesn't mind whats in his sandwhiches but they must be cut into triangles - not squares! Apparently this shape tastes better :)

Weird but mine like marmite hummus (normal recipe just add marmite!)
Also savoury muffins, can change the ingredients to make them different.
Chicken & lettuce sandwich or roll, their input involves chopping the lettuce from the living lettuce we but from Lidl.
I don't let them have too much input - it would take too long and I don't want to waste so I just put in what I know they'll eat.
I don't write notes unless it's their birthday - then I wrap up each item in their lunch like presents Grin

Tortilla wedges:

Simply take two tortilla's, spread tomato puree on one, sprinkle on cheese, jalapeno peppers, sun dried tomatoes and finely chopped coriander. Top with the second tortilla and cook until melted in a warm frying pan. Voila

DD loves a spinach and cheese muffin in her lunchbox, and a nice exciting variety of fruit all chopped and in a Tupperware for her to munch through. I have a pad of fancy sticky labels so I'll often write her a little one-line note and stick it to something in her lunchbox so she knows I'm thinking of her. I found them all in her 'treasure box' when we were clearing out her room together, I didn't know she had kept them.... And suddenly I got something in my eye and couldn't see Wink one of those real "oh how I love you SO MUCH" moments Grin

Butterfly buns are my childrens' favourites, with homemade strawberry jam

Sandwiches get soggy, so we've been going with wraps recently. The boys are loving them. Spicy chicken with salad, beef, ham it doesn't matter, they are loving them all.

Move never experienced soggy sandwiches in a lunch in 30+ years, what are you doing to yours??? Confused

balloon your son is, of course, correct Grin

I vary sandwich fillings to keep them guessing right up until they sink their little pearl whites into my creations! Sometimes it's cheese & tomato, others marmalade or homegrown raspberry jam, and my personal favourite - watercress & egg. The LOs especially like to grow the cress in a mould where it appears as hair - that I'm very enthusiastic to cut!
It's also great to make faces out of the sandwiches. Fruit like cucumber, olives for the eyes, carrots for eyebrows and a slice of ham for a tongue make for such an interesting lunchtime, it makes me happy just to think of them opening their special lunchtime surprises Grin
