Most people have fond memories of when they were younger, baking with their families during wet weekends or holidays, getting messy, licking the spoon and waiting impatiently for the bakes to come out of the oven. So which bakes transport you back to your childhood? What are your top 1-2 favourite baking recipes from your childhood? What part of these bakes makes you feel most nostalgic? Have you introduced your children to these bakes?

I remember baking yummy flapjacks, very easy and I could puck which fruit and nuts we added each time.

Mam hates cooking and is no baker. But she loves apple tart so I have fond childhood memories of the rare days when she'd decide to bake an apple or rhubarb tart, and the house would fill with a fabulous aroma that I can still smell right now. The tarts never looked pretty or tasted great - but we loved them

My mum isn't really known for her skills in the kitchen bless her but I do remember as a child she used to make a delicious sponge cake - it was very plain, very simple, had no toppings or fillings, no layers, no decoration, it was just a plain old sponge cake but I loved it! Smile

Not attempted to recreate that with my DC but I have baked with my DS (2) - he loves making cup cakes, especially the mixing and the licking of the spoons!

My fondest memory: whenever DM did anything with pastry she would always give me all the offcuts to make a jam turnover.

Roll out a rough circle, dollop jam on one side, turn over like a pasty and seal the outside. Decorate with rolled up bits of pastry if preferred. Bake, then eat with lashings of evaporated milk!

My mum used to make a lovely fruit cake, the rubbed-in type. Just a touch of spice, almonds & candied peel as well as the usual dried fruit. She always sprinkled sugar on top before baking, it crystallised & formed a lovely thin crunchy topping. I make a similar one these days, complete with sprinkled sugar.

I remember my mums baking skills were minimal. Being from an Asian culture, baking wasn't part of her traditional cooking skills so she'd learnt the basics of how to make a cake for our birthdays , bless her Smile

and that cake she baked in a big silver tin was amazing. She always threw in some sliced blanched almonds, and cut it into squares herself. No faffing about letting the birthday child cut cake Grin

A lovely square of solid, yellowish aromatic cake. Crunchy on the edges, soft in the inside. Smile

And actually now that I think of it, I need to ask her how she made it and quantities of stuff etc. She's never possessed a kitchen scales in her life! She's coming to visit on Saturday, I may ask for a demo with dd1 (aged 6, keen baker Wink)

Mum's chicken and mushroom pie with slightly stodgy pastry (I love it like that but she would always be flustered and apologetic about it!) and her Victoria sponge which was like heaven.
I do make the pie but not with my own pastry as I'm not a great baker.

Butterfly cakes definitely. Make little sponge cakes, slic the top off, blob on buttercrea, then cut the cut-off bit in two and stick back on top pretending that it is "wings".

I loved baked, stuffed potatoes, they were the first thing I learned to cook, so I could make myself a snack.

Baking potatoes rubbed in butter with a ring cut round the middle into the skin, poop on at 180 degrees for one hour, take out the oven scoop out the insides, mash with lots of cheese, butter, a dash of milk, salt and a tiny bit of english mustard and cayenne, pop the innards back in and place under a medium grill until browned. Yum!

But in terms of confectionery, I've always loved a victoria sponge as I've never liked icing and scones with salted butter, good quality strawberry jam and clotted cream.

My brother and i fondly remember my mums sultana cake which she made by the rubbing in method using her sunbeam mixer. It made two big loaves and was known as the cut and come again cake. I have kept the recipe and make it from time to time if feeding a crowd.

Making apple pie with my Granny. She had a J Oliver approach (hand full of this, dollop of that), and it always seem to taste great, although aesthetically not always!

I used to help my gran make swiss roll and pineapple upside down cake. The smell of baking always brings me back to my childhood Smile

Rice crispie squares!! Grandma liked a quick and easy fix!

Other grandma adored baking.
Pavlova was a regular, and so was coffee cake and regular cream and strawberry Victoria sponge.

Now I bake all sorts and decorate them. Dd helps!

For my birthdays as a child my mum would make an amazing chocolate cake and butterfly buns. Looking back, they aren't that special, but I loved the buttercream and the real chocolate she melted and spread on top of the cake.

It has to be chocolate crispier cakes closely followed by fruity flap jacks!
We would make the crispies with butter cocoa powder and syrup rather than melted chocolate, delicious!!

My Nan made a big tin-full of welsh cakes to take with us on each holiday. Fabulous!
And I loved making rock cakes as a child. They were dead easy but you could plop them on the baking sheet and then design them into a monster!

I helped my mum with the baking every Sunday. My favourite was a marble cake. Haven't had it for years, but I was especially proud of that one as I devised my own gooey chocolate frosting. My icing skills haven't evolved much over the years, but my sons always insist on having a home-baked chocolate cake for their birthdays.

Cheese straws! They were in a little book called Children's Party Cooking, and were so tasty. I used to bake a lot with my mum and my granny, but cheese straws were the first thing I ever baked completely on my own. My dad loved them so I made them regularly, and I still make them now. My son likes to bake them with me.

It's such an easy recipe - butter, cheese, flour, an egg yolk and an Oxo cube.

Coffee and walnut cake was and still is one of the best cakes I bake using Stork, plus me and my sisters use to make chocolate cake for our birthdays covered with chocolate fingers around the outside and buttons on the top, it was sooo much chocolate but lots of fun
