Specsavers Competition time - solve the clues to win holiday vouchers, an iPad mini or a radio! NOW CLOSED

As you may know we have been working with Specsavers across the last few months - to promote eye tests and all things eye care related at their stores. We now have a special thread running across the week with some great prizes to be won..!

Answer the questions and solve the clues to unscramble a word and you'll be entered into a prize draw to win one of three great prizes: £500 of holiday vouchers, an iPad mini or a DAB radio!

Each day a new clue will be added and on Friday the link to how to enter will also be posted. You just need to collect the first letter of each clue and re arrange them to get a word which is the correct answer. No posting the answers on the thread please Grin. The word is 5 letters long and is a commonly used abbreviation.

Three of the clues lead you to a page on MN and as an extra clue there will be a hidden Specsavers image on those pages (see box for the image to look out for). Two of the clues are just quiz style questions to guess the correct answer.

Clue 1 - Monday
What are good to wear on your face to protect your eye's when the sun's out?
Hint - they are dark and make you look cool!

Clue 2 - Tuesday
What do Specsavers focus (gettit) on and offer examinations of?
Hint - balls!

Clue 3 - Wednesday
What is the proper name for age related long sight?
Hint: look here

Clue 4 - Thursday
Where would you start a thread about a health issue concerning your children?
Hint: the clue's in the question!

Clue 5 - Friday
Want some advice from MNers on what frames to get - where would you head to discuss this on Mumsnet?
Hint - it's fashion darlink!

Enter the competition (here) and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £500 Thomas Cook holiday voucher, one MNer will win an iPad mini (worth £239) and one will win a Pure Evoke DAB Radio (worth c£150)

Standard Insight T&Cs apply. Closing date for entries on the entry form only Tuesday 5th May 9.00am

Good luck!

I'm pretty sure, in the annals of time when I first joined up, there was a rule that you couldn't win a competition unless you joined in on the non-competition threads too. This thread would suggest that rule was in need of revival!

SoupDragon · 23/04/2015 15:39

This thread certainly shows that there should be some kind of literacy and comprehension test before allowing people to participate. :o

After some googling, I know what has happened. Some fuckwit posted the competion on a website on Monday when there was just one question.

The good thing is that all these freeloaders won't have answered the questions properly and thus are ineligible to win :)

momscribe · 23/04/2015 17:32

Good Luck everyone!
Friday, I'm waiting :)

RoosterCogburnIsInTheJakes · 23/04/2015 17:39

If only I had the answer to question one I might consider entering this Grin

I agree with Patricia it's a shame there isn't some kind of posting criteria to be eligible to win a competition
not that I'm bitter cos I never win, oh no not me

MummyBtothree · 23/04/2015 17:44

I agree, like a minimum time since joining to be eligible to win.

BrianButterfield · 23/04/2015 18:05

Oh no, some more idiots posted after me. I only posted sunglasses because I thought it would be funny to bump the thread with it, please don't lump me in with the brainless.

SUNGLASSES.

We know you're not brainless Brian.

BrianButterfield · 23/04/2015 18:44

You're impressed because I, alone of everyone on Mumsnet, know the first word.

RatOnnaStick · 23/04/2015 19:43

Well I have my letters, k, i, c, t all lined up ready for the last clue tomorrow Smile. I bet its an h.

This is really funny and sometimes the timing is perfect:

MNHQ - don't just come on in here and post Sunglasses, read the OP again!
greedyforafreebie - Sunglasses

Almost as funny is the way normal MNers are now bored of all the Sunglasses going on and are just chatting amongst themselves. Grin

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 24/04/2015 09:25

I'm having a lie in and giggling away at all the 'Sunglasses'.

Seriously though, it does frustrate me that people come over from comping sites, don't have anything to offer or contribute to MN and just win the prizes.

I'm also curious as to how many get picked for product tests, take the freebie then never get involved in any feedback, reviews or discussions.

I agree, it's really unfair when the popularity of MN is based on people actively contributing to discussions. Just to come over to enter competitions puts regular users at a disadvantage. It's thread like this that really highlight it. I don't really enter many competitions but it's the principle of the thing!
