Andrex® have asked us to find out what cunning tricks Mumsnetters have to make sure their DCs keep clean, and learn good clean habits.

Here’s what Andrex® say, “We all know the importance of keeping clean, not only to our health but also our confidence. So if you have any ways of keeping your family clean we would love to hear them.”

So, what tricks do you have up your sleeve to make sure your DC keeps themselves clean? Do you have a special song you sing to them to make sure that brush their teeth properly? Maybe you introduce an element of competition between siblings to see who can wash, dry and dress themselves quickest? Or perhaps you encourage your DCs to clean thoroughly by fashioning them stylish ‘bubble beards’? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Add your comment to this thread and you'll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 Spa voucher and a month supply of Andrex®. Please note comments may be used by MN and Andrex® on social media, on the Andrex® pages on MN or possibly elsewhere: anon of course - but please only add your comment if you're happy for it to be used like this!

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Mummy has, unfortunately a bad set of teeth and if they don't brush them well and make them shiny, their teeth will end up like mummy's. And then we see whose are the shiniest.

Bath toys and bubbles help my dd2 who it used to be a mission to bath. And they like applying nice smelling moisturisers once they're out because they can only use them when they've had a bath and nice and clean

pipersky · 20/10/2014 11:22

We have animal puppet face cloths to encourage them to wash their faces properly. We have also bought them 'big girl' toothbrushes (electric ones) and they have been much keener to clean their teeth!

Ritakd · 20/10/2014 12:42

I hold a tissue up & threaten them with a spit wash

nerysw · 20/10/2014 14:23

We have a timer for toothbrushing, plenty of bath toys and their dad puts the hits from Frozen on spotify for them while they're in the bath.

sscrase · 20/10/2014 14:39

Turn everything into a competition. "I bet you can't get ready for the bath before I've run it" etc... works a treat.

feefeegabor · 20/10/2014 18:26

I have a handy supply of different shower gels and I let them choose which one they want to use each time they shower (it's usually my favourite one. It seems to work!

clarem100 · 20/10/2014 20:08

we brush each other's teeth in front of the mirror so we can pull faces and be silly to make it fun and not a chore

StandUnderMyUmbrella · 20/10/2014 21:08

I buy sweetie flavoured handwashes which makes my daughter love washing her hands - especially when they smell like Strawberry Laces afterwards! xx

brookson · 20/10/2014 21:33

we have some bath crayons they love

sarah3875 · 20/10/2014 21:40

We have a Thomas the Tank toothbrush timer which my boys love! I have to check their hands after the go to the toilet as they are monkeys for not washing them! Ewww!

tanyavt · 20/10/2014 22:35

When the children were little I would brush their teeth while singing a song I'd made up... and we could only finish brushing when the song had finished!

goingloombandcrazy · 21/10/2014 00:01

We hunt for food they've consumed when brushing teeth!

georgiebrown0 · 21/10/2014 06:21

Timing my kids and reward charts work with my kids

VickyRsuperstar · 21/10/2014 07:37

With the older boys (young teens) subtlety doesn't count so I have to march them to the shower and tell them to take one and not to forget to wash their hair LOL! The girls are quite good at working out when they need showers without encouragement. I tell all the kids to clean their teeth well or they will go rotten and fall out! I have bought them electric brushes as the kids like them and it gets them more motivated to clean their teeth properly and they have a timer on them to make sure they spend enough time on it.
I have put a fancy nail brush in the downstairs bathroom and encourage them to run a basin of hot water and have a scrub with some soap when they come in. The little ones love any excuse to play with water!

pusinky · 21/10/2014 08:40

I use a timer to make sure the kids brush their teeth for the right amount of time

roar349 · 21/10/2014 09:56

Always have baby wipes to hand.

happysouls · 21/10/2014 12:31

Make sure they get as mucky as possible on a daily basis and have lots of fun with it, therefore also requiring a bath. Bathtime is then great playtime with bubbles, scrubbing and toys! Also after bathtime we did this thing of wrapping up in the towel like wrapping a parcel, pretending to write an address on (tickles) and stick a stamp on, bumping up and down on the knees while the 'parcel' is being carried to the post box, more bumping as the postie delivers it and then the unwrapping! My gran used to do this when I had bathtimes!

Callico · 21/10/2014 13:37

Bubble bath always worked for us. Was actually quite difficult getting them out again!!

GoldfishSpy · 21/10/2014 15:39

Strawberry laces soap gets used a lot more eagerly than anything we've had before!

carpathian · 21/10/2014 16:38

i have boys who would avoid showers at all costs no internet or game consoles till showered usually works a treat with mine i do have one son my 9 year old who would live in the shower if he could hes also the tooth police with all my other boys constantly asking them have you brushed we call him mr clean lol :)

milliemoon · 21/10/2014 20:08

We sing songs about brushing teeth and do the actions which my toddler thinks is funny. He's starting to get it

krnries · 21/10/2014 20:14

We have scented liquid soaps that appeal to the kids, like cola or strawberry and have toothbrushes that play music for a time so they brush for long enough.

cheryl100 · 21/10/2014 20:55

I use fantastic products like the Andrex wipes which my son loves and also coloured bath foam to make the process fun!

cluckyhen · 21/10/2014 21:25

Mine have a favourite tune playing when they scrub their teeth - it's over 2 mins but they are happy to keep going!

We also told them that if they didn't wash their hands after going to the toilet thats how they got nasty nail infections like those on Nannies toes.....caused some funny questions as they have got older.
