Can you take yourself back to your own first day of school? What do you remember?

I remember absolutely nothing about my first day.

I do have memories of the P1 teacher, none of them pleasant. I think I probably blocked the first day from my memory. And school didn't improve any, I hated it right til the end.

DS1's first day was fine. He was happy to go in, we went for a coffee, picked him up a couple of hours later and took him to McDonalds and he had a Fruit Shoot Grin Wink before falling asleep on the living room floor, completely whacked by the experience.

My first day of school I got yelled at by a dinner lady Sad I opened my sandwich and a packet of crisps simultaneously. We were only allowed one thing open at a time. No idea how I was meant to know.

DS spent his first month of school dressed up like a princess in the make believe corner. He loved every minute.

I had just turned 4 and was the youngest in my class. I remember being terrified when my mum left, but my primary 1 teacher was wonderful. During the day there was a huge thunder storm and she got us all onto a big mat in front if her and read a story to us to try and drown out the storm.
Because I was so little she brought me onto her knee. I remember vividly that she was wearing a really fluffy mohair type cardigan and I snuggled right into it and ended up falling asleep!
She was such a lovely teacher and even though my primary days are a very very very long time ago, I have never forgotten her. Sadly she has now passed away though.

DD had a good first day at school, but she hadn't quite grasped the concept that once you had been to "big school" you had to keep going, day after day after that... That news was received with mixed feelings. They had a staggered start so I didn't really have much time to think about how she was getting on, on her first day, as they only did a morning and were home before lunch!

As for myself, I have zero memory of my first day!

My dd started school with a big smile on her face. I cried in the car. When I came to pick her up I noticed her collar looked a little but pink. When she took her jumper off at bedtime, I saw that her entire shirt had been painted by her classmates. There wasn't a scrap of white left. How the teachers hadn't noticed I will never know. Amazingly it came out in the wash and all her friend still remember her rainbow short.

I remember looking at the clock with my mother and working out it was time to leave. The other children in my class were crying, so I joined in, just in case. A bigger girl, almost five, took me under her wing and tried to peruade the teacher I should have the smaller (more advanced) books to read, as I was 'only little'. There was no school uniform, and the one photo of the day shows me in some kind of strange mock-leather waistcoat.
There are many pictures of my sons' first days at school, all trussed up neatly in uniform they hadn't managed to trash, colour in, or chew yet. They were unfazed by the experience, and nobody tried to organise them.

I trapped my finger in the car door on my first day at school. My relationship with the place was rather coloured by that first experience!
