Direct Line have asked us to find out what Mumsnetters would do to their homes to go the extra mile to make it a "Home Plus". What would you do with £1,000 if you had the choice?

Here's what Direct Line say, "We know that a home is more than just a house, that’s why our Home Insurance Plus policy has additional benefits to cover more of the things you love. And right now there’s 20% off when you buy online!

(Discount applies when you buy buildings and contents together. Minimum premiums apply. New customers only. Underwritten by U K Insurance Limited)

We want to hear what your ultimate Home Plus ideas are – what would you love to do to your home to go that extra mile and make it a Home Plus Home?"

So, what is the craziest idea you've had about renovating your home, but just haven’t been able to justify the cost for? Perhaps you have always wanted to have a jungle themed bedroom? Or mimic the beach complete with beach hut, sand, 'sea' and palm trees in your back garden? Whatever it is, we'd love to hear it.

Three lucky Mumsnetters will be selected to carry out their idea and will be given the £1,000 they need to do so! The winners who are selected must be willing to provide before and after pictures of the area of their homes they choose to renovate with the £1,000 prize. The renovation work must be done and the pictures must be provided by Monday 11th August. Photos will be posted on Direct Line's hub on Mumsnet and may be used in further marketing material by them.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Mine and DH's bedroom is such an unloved space: when we moved in we focussed on getting DSs nursery sorted and just left ourselves with cheap nasty furniture and worn out brown curtains. I'd love to make the space into our own little private haven now the rest of the house has been taken over with jumperoos, change tabels and the like. I really want to put our own stamp on it; DH is a biologist and I'd love some botanic prints and fossil style ornaments, I'd also really up the luxury factor with the kind of fancy carpet we just wouldn't have in other rooms given the spit up factor of our wee 6 mo :-)

Simple - a lovely, stain proof (this bit is key!) carpet on our stairs and in our upstairs hall! It's taken quite a battering since we had our son - and just last week we were able to confirm that lily pollen and cream carpets definitely do not mix!

I'd love to revamp our living room, we had a dodgy insurance job done by a company the insurance company told us to use, we were left with damp still coming through the walls, paper peeling off within weeks and bad plastering. They went bust so the insurance company have washed their hands of it.
To have a nice looking room would be great.

I have a downstairs loo, which has old carpet in it shudders from the previous owner, old scratched wallpaper and a rusty bin.
My plan would be to change the wall paper, flooring, accessories and blind. I would have a beach theme. I have done a lot of beach photography so I would get a photo I have taken and made into the design of the roller blind.
So although the beach idea isn't original, no one would have the same blind as me :)

We have a boring budget bedroom is in serious need of a personality overhaul! I would love a night sky (blue with silver stars) feature wall with a blackboard area for middle of the night inspiration :) I would buy an amazing bed with tons of storage so that we can finally abandon the 'chest of drawers with two bedside tables balanced on top of it' look! Then there would actually be some floor space! enough room for a beautiful rug! On the door I would frame our favourite quote 'what shall we do tonight brain? The same thing we do everynight pinky, try to take over the world!'

We have a very odd outside courtyard area between the living room and the bathroom that is just a concrete box - really ugly and very useless! I would like to glam it up, just some gravel and a little outside table and chairs to make a little sun-trap outdoor seating area. I think now you've suggested it, palm trees may have to feature too!

My Home Plus idea - transform my dull pastel 80’s kitchen into one evocative of a Moroccan souk to rock my Kasbah! Think herbs and spices, bright tiling and a colour/smell explosion!

They say the kitchen is the heart of the home and with 2 hungry boys to feed it definitely is the place where we congregate most as a family. Me, my husband and the kids all love cooking and like it to be a big sociable mess where everyone can muck in!

Our small but perfectly formed kitchen is an homage to the late 70's / early 80's with pastel units, ugly light fittings, insipid coloured tiling, and questionable plaster stippling! But I can't really justify ripping it out as it is perfectly functional and does the job just fine.

Since we moved in I have happily turned a blind eye to the sad and faded décor… BUT… it would be my dream to transfer my dull yet functional kitchen into a world of colour and spice!

I have been ready to start this project since I took a trip to Morocco in 2005 before kids and husband - I've been collecting books, magazine clippings and images on Pinterest boards ever since. I have a Moroccan themed mood board packed full of images ready to go! Think beautiful brightly coloured glazed tiles, bright blues and yellows, an overflowing spice rack and fresh mint and other herbs hanging in pots from the walls ready to be picked and popped into a tagine... I could go on!

£1,000 would allow me to completely rejuvenate the most important room in our home, transforming a boring functional kitchen into a warm and colourful family space.

We had our hallway papered with a gorgeous blue flowers print and all the woodwork done last year, and that just shows up our horrid carpet from the last owners. It's rough hessian, scratchy underfoot, really hard to vacuum and a dire brown colour. I would love to have the hall stairs and landing re carpeted in a gorgeous stripy carpet that I've seen which would make my lovely big hallway a real feature, and if anything was left over spend it on some funky prints for the wall or a quirky storage item to sit at the top for all those bits and pieces I have nowhere to store.

Oh and I forgot to mention that I am currently expecting and the thought of a little one learning to crawl and navigate steps on that horrible carpet makes me sad!

I would get the stairs decorated. I the decorator went on maternity leave leaving it half stripped, lime green and pink with woodchip still above arms reach. it still has the 1970's swirly carpet. the baby is turning eight next month.

I would also like to make a piece of furniture for the hall that I can store shoes, school bags and football kits in. I would get the understairs cupboard remodelled so that I can acess it without banging my head on the door frame... and get the door rehung.

(realistically, I could probably just about manage to get it all decorated.)

I have a vision and I have a dream
The loveliest garden that I’ve ever seen:
Strawberries, blueberries, bursting with flavour
Rhubarb and delicate raspberries to savour
A colourful canopy safe from the sun
Shading a spot where the kids can have fun...

Instead, through my window – I don’t like to moan –
But everything’s broken and all overgrown
No space to play and no flowers in bloom
No splash of colour to brighten the gloom

I’m begging for help – and I’m begging your pardon –
But please help bring love, life and joy to my garden!

We must have the smallest bathroom in the country! And we do not like it! We would love to extend it or if we can't do that at least fix it up! We would need a special spacesaver bath to fit one. Now we only have an old shower... We have just had a baby so we would really love a bath for her to play in.

I have a small room downstairs which currently has no plaster on the walls etc, I would love to get it plastered, painted and carpeted to turn it into a craft room. I was a long desk under the window for the sewing machine, shelves on the walls and a comfy sofa to sit on and knit

I would love to make my living room more family friendly. Wooden flooring enabling me to keep it clean & a lovely little table to go in the corner as it doubles up as my dining room too.

I would love to redecorate in nice bright colours & get some shelving on one wall to find a home for all the toys.

All sounds very dull, but it would make such a difference to my family.

I would like a strong hook in our high ceiling, or maybe two of them or even more. I would use this in different ways at different times: hammock, suspended chair, aerial yoga slings and those fabric swathes you can climb up and do gymnastic types moves on.and a swing.
I am also wanting to create a "book nook" reading area.
And in the garden a super duper cycle shed to end all cycle sheds inspired by the shed of the year competition. Ideally with remote control activated beetle wing door.
